ID - They go to GA. Whether you gamble everyday or once or twice a year. If you cant stop when you're winning or cant stop when you're losing then you are a compulsive gambler.
I learned the hard way that even if i won big (and i did! we're talking 50/60k's here) i would quickly dream of my debts completely cleared and then i'd only need say another 20-30k to put back in my savings........then lost the lost within a few weeks.
It will NEVER be enough. if i won £100,000 i'd want £100,001

    +1

Exactly what I went/going through! However, I am getting my life back in control.

Hippo had an exclusive VIP event, fully paid drinks etc, at the Platinum for the "high rollers" on yesterday (I think), I got an invite through the post abt 3 weeks ago and as soon as I read Hippo it went straight in the bin! What a waste of paper! :rotfl:

Moments like these make me feel both proud and stupid. Proud cause I could resist it :D and stupid cause I must have wasted enough money at any given time to be invited to it! :o

As they say, you live and learn!

    Hi,

I have been lurker on here fromsome time. But as I did the most

Horrendous thing lastnight of blowing £1600 on slots I thought I will say hello.

I have been a CG fornearly 10 years. I am a strong female with a good job and very little stress (Apart from the debt I have accrued though slots, which now sits at £21000).

I have been bailed outtwice ( I know this is not the right thing to-do) and have a had long timeswith no bets. But I always go back!!! I am under a councillor at the moment.

Sorry for the ramble!I will post my full story once the self-loathing has died down a bit.

Thanks! I think my "high rolling" days are behind me... and I don't think they would have appreciated if I rocked up with a visa electron cashcard which is the only debit card I have access to!:rotfl:

  • Good morning. New to this thread, but I need to post here..

I got paid last friday and had a nice tax refund of £600 included, having always enjoyed a flutter on the fruit machines, i went to go to a classic arcade but it was closed(i was 2 hours early!), being so desperate i turned to a bookies. To cut a long story short, i ended up doing the whole lot on FOBTs in about an hour and a half.

Here comes my LBM. I need to stop gambling, the last straw, im cutting my losses here. I have about 3k of debt right now, instead of gambling it needs to go on clearing debt. So since Saturday I have quit almost-cold turkey. I say almost, because I will still go to the classic arcade with a £20 note once a month. I could give that up too, but this arcade is unlike any other and i have many good friends who go there on the weekend.

That £100 a week that i set aside for gambling has turned into £20 a month and now the £100 a week will go on overpaying my debts off. Ihope to be debt free by May next year, I know its going to be tough but I know that I can do it.
    Total debt Aug 2012: £3800, Nov: £3225, Dec: £3151.45 2013: Jan: £1544.24 :j Feb: £1492.03 :( Sept 2013: Debt free :D

HI and welcome the the thread.
Would these really good friends be really good friends to give you the £20 to spend in there with them rather than you spending your own money that you cant afford jsut so you gfot to spend time with them? I doubt it xx and if they are, take it.
Sorry but i dont for one second believe that will work. i only say this from years and years of seeing people try, and fail, to quit like this.
The fact that you went in the bookies because you couldnt get in the arcade proves the point of going cold turkey.
If oyu cant do what you "usually" do, a compulsive gambler will find somewhere else to gamble.

I wish you luck and hope someone else can come along to convince you that this will not work for you :(
