that exactly what I thought when i saw it for sale! My sewing skills are minimal but this was easy. My sil unpicked the legs of a pair of jeans and stitched in contrasting panels to make a long skirt - I'm tempted to try that too next time I wreck some jeans.0

I find myself looking at being unemployed very soon and wonder whilst applying for jobs, going for interviews to keep myself active and out of the house what can I do.....
Visit the Library
Visit Museums
Work for a charitable organisation
What else........
Bearing in mind autumn and winter are fast approachingLucylema x :j0 -
try and get an allotment - and grow your own fruit and veg - that will keep you very busy and is hugely rewarding
if you live in an area that has elderly / disabled people - why not volunteer / offer to help them in some way - as the weather turns, the elderly in particular become more housebound and i am sure a few of your neighbours would appreciate a hand with the shopping, picking up prescriptions, tidying the garden etc
sorry to hear about your pending job loss - good lucksaving money by growing my own - much of which gets drunk
made loads last year :beer:0 -
lucylema- how about free day passes at gyms, volunteer to walk dogs for the RSPCA etc, assuming that you don't have mobility issues etc.:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0

There's things like:- Helping others for FREE!
There are often free (or very cheap) things posted here:- UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments
And quite a few (mostly family orientated) tips/hints/links posted here:- MoneySaving in Marriages, Relationships & Families
Then, every now and then... Freebies (no spend required) Board
OK - many of these are one off things - but free days out now and then help "you" so you get recharged...
Plenty of on-line forums are happy to accept new volunteer moderators, and charity shops always seem to need willing helpers.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. i was going to suggest the freebies board as well, you will also have more free time so maybe plan to visit your nearest supermarket/small store each day when the stuff gets reduced, mine reduce around 8.15 each night and its usually worth making the effort
catch up on cleaning , declutter and ebay anything thats not nailed down0 -
What about looking for local groups or clubs? You mention visiting the Library how about seeing if they have a reading group you can join? Also, a lot of local churches, scout huts, villlage halls, community centres have groups that meet during the day and are usually free to join.0

Look around your house and see if you can make any preparations for colder weather. Try to be creative so that the heating bills will not increase too much if you are at home more often during colder times.
Make simple door draught stoppers, line the curtains or knit a cardy or knee rug etc. Start a new handicraft to make Christmas presents/cards.0 -
This time of year picking blackberries is a good idea if you can find the time. They make good jam, pies or just to be eaten.
I think some charity work is great too, this type of work is hugely helpful when you're unemployed as it gives you more references to use, something to talk about in interviews and it's a chance to learn new skills. I know it helped me a lot and I've seen it help lots of other people.
It may also be a good time to tidy your house and eBay anything you don't want any more.0
