Hugs to all who deal with difficult things within their lives. I am continually amazed at what people cope with - as some have said . . you just do! That IS your life. (((hugs)))

Well, optician done. He reckons I need THREE pairs of glasses (one for distance, one for intermediate/vdu stuff and one for reading) and suggested varifocals. I told him to bog off. I'm not OLD enough for varifocals! I said I would settle for two - distance (imperative if I'm to drive safely) and intermediate for work. I have no problems reading. I think it's wrong that they diagnose your reading lenses on the tiniest possible typeface that one rarely sees in books anyway!
Funny, I didn't realise you could tell when someone was wearing varifocals (sorry 'old peoples' glasses) As a matter of fact I am thinking of changing back to single lens. Varifocals are much simpler than having to keep changing glasses. but I am finding judging depth - like on stairs - a bit difficult. Which might account for missing kerbs!
  • This site never fails to amaze me - not only money saving and support for all things monetary but also heloing to sort out my slovenly housekeeping!

Have made a start this week with windows and some paint work cleaning so will now try to keep up with the rest of the daily "dos"!

But DS is back from camp this weekend so may get bogged down in mountains of wet smelly gear to be sorted before we can go on to other clearing up

    Thanks!

I didn't mean you could tell that someone was old because they are wearing varifocals, it's just I've always associated the ordinary bifocals with 'old people'. Varifocals, ergo, must be worse! As I'm now 51 - I'm refusing to admit I'm old (or at least getting older!) and refuse to wear glasses that when someone reads the prescription will tell them I'm in the 'older' category.

I also had worries about what you said, CraftyS, about judging depth etc. And, I could just imagine me with three layers in the glasses - I'd be like the nodding dog on the car parcel shelf:

colleague across the desk (top of lens)
    'puter screen (middle of lens)
paper on desk in front of 'puter screen (bottom of lens)

rinse and repeat several times in a few minutes and I'm sure my physiotherapy bill would go up because I'd have repetative strain injury in my neck from all that bobbing up and down!
