Meeting in the Hospital went well.......better than I expected!!
So im happy!
DH will be there for another 3 months as they cannot offer him a permanent bed, so the social worker and I are gonna look at other alternatives in Sept when the kids go back to school!!
I want him to stay where he is as he has got used to the staff, as have the kids and I. But the consultant said to look at the alternatives, and make a decision.......they may not be what I want......but it gives me another 3 months!! I fought his case well!! And A lot of the team members have said stick to my guns!! He was in a nursing home for 8 months and it was awful, the staff were great but he couldnt take part in anything and there was really no motivation to get 'better' as there was a lot of death ect around, it was hard to keep the kids under control when I took them up to see their dad and really was unsuitable!! In the place he is in there are big gardens and the staff have bought footballs and toys for the kids to play with when we go up, they also go to the therapy room with him and paint pictures!!!
The kids have grown attached to the staff, and vice versa, the staff are always saying that they brighten the place up!! There are a lot of younger patients there who have no family and my kids love them to pieces!!!
My DH had a car accident 4 years ago that left him severly brain damaged, and in a wheelchair, with very little prospect of recovery, but we are fine with that now, it took a long time to accept what happened and i was hell bent on telling everybody including drs that he would get better, and when my mum and I on the 25th of july 2005 were told that he would be in a persistant vegetative state for the rest of his life, i told the dr he didnt know what he was talking about!!!!!....and low and behold 2 weeks later DH started to speak!!
But he has now come as far as he can.....and i have accepted this:)
Well I am delighted you have a 3 month extension.. And it is a shame he cannot stay there as it sounds very lovely ..
I didn't realise this was what the appointment was for.. and I think in view of it all and keeping it together you should have a medal like a bin lid!!!
Hubby and I were discussing this scenario a few weeks ago.. and the outcome you have just painted is his wish.. any life is better than none and so long as you are all coping it is fine. I am sad that you and your children are having to live with this.. but as you say you are dealing with it and life goes on.. but still... sending big hugs.. it must be very hard to know what to do for the best at times and you must truly miss the person he was once. I assume he knows who you all are? I would find it very difficult so I think you are amazing.. :A

MOF77 I really understand what you mean... (I couldn't say I know how you feel, only you know how you feel,) but it's amazing what you can cope with isn't it! I never thought I'd be strong enough to cope with disability, or to fight my daughter's corner with docs/education etc, But you just do don't you??!!
When I've been told my girl won't do this or that, or she'll be like this or that, it's like a red rag to a bull.... My heels get well entrenched!!!! And off we go to prove them wrong! But it's not about being in denial, I fully understand and accept my DD3's condition, but I don't/won't accept the stereo-typing that goes with it.
