be_alright - nope, everything just works, though sometimes things aren't where I expect them to be, but easy enough to find
proliant - tried ubuntu and mandriva dual booting with xp, realised xp (now vista) has all the apps i need, and works, and i understand it (failing to get a wireless card to work using xp drivers and various commands, none of which i understood, and failing, did it for me. i realised i was spending hours with an OS rather than a working computerUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
I think you're absolutely correct.
The OP said, right at the start, "I can't handle having to find fixes all the time I just want a computer that runs easily with no fuss!"
So, quite clearly, she should buy a Mac, instead. :happyhear
Actually, those who do use Macs are finding this dispute between Microsoft lovers over which version of Windows is worse extremely amusing.
:rotfl:
(And not a little reassuring, too.)
But let us pull ourselves together and be serious for a moment.
I think the OP might find * THIS * link helpful in her deliberations.
I do despair - Try to help the OP - nope - lets just have fun rubbishing one system and promote another.
The OP had a problem - now resolved, so leave it0 -
You're right mymatebob!!
Leave me alone!!
I've had no other probs so far, early days. (having said that my DS1 is having trouble uploading videos)
I knew somebody would say something about linux - I have heard of it and the idea appeals to me, but I think I'd rather get someone else to do it for me. I'll wait for my brother's annual trip up north.
Thanks everyone, food for thought but inertia wins!Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -
I have a Vista pc and an XP pc and I much prefer Vista, and I'm certainly no techie.I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!0 -
Nodwah,
I'm really happy that you got it sorted to your satisfaction and now feel confident to advance with the system of your (freedom of) choice. That's great.
And I'm glad that you could see I was just trying to give you a chuckle to help you recover from your moment of temporary anguish.
Please forgive my deficiencies in panda-sexing; unfortunately they don't seem too good at it themselves.
Keep eating the bamboo!
Certainly not my mate Bob,

Clearly, you were too desperately devoid of a sense of humour to notice that I waited until nearly ten minutes after the OP had advised us all that the problem was solved and that the future of the Chinese Ursidae is bravely committed to Vista.
Through your red haze of pomposity it perhaps also escaped your notice that the OP thanked me for the posting that got yout panties in a twist.
Please feel free to apply to the webmaster for a little cap with lots of scrambled egg on its peak to wear when you're sitting at your computer and instructing everybody else what to do.
But don't count on anybody here paying any attention whatsoever to your imperial decrees.
Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:
As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

Kinda wish I'd never started this now.

Windows is the Devil's work: God uses a Mac.

So do I, and I prefer XP...;)
Vista is far too bloated for my liking.0 -
