Hi, i've a new PC with Vista home premium. I've already encountered a problem with the user accounts - I've found a fix for it but it's complicated. My question is, as I'm totally non-techie would I be better off in the long run removing vista and installing XP instead. I can't handle having to find fixes all the time I just want a computer that runs easily with no fuss!

What sort of problem are you having, perhaps someone with some knowledge on here may be able to help before you go changing your OS?0

XP = No Fuss.
Vista = Requires a bit of effort.
In my professional opinion (and many others will feel different), XP is great, performs better than Vista and "just works". However you will have to buy an XP license for your computer to install XP - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/114048 £55 so it's not a good tip for a "money saver".
Perhaps post up your problems with Vista and we'll see if we can fix them?0 -
No, my experience of Vista over the last 2 years is that its far easier and less involved to maintain than XP ever was.0

I don't know about vista, never heard a good word about it.
I've got xp and never had a problem at all. Go for it, see how you like it?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I think it would help everyone if the OP does indeed post their specific problem before this turns into a XP versus Vista fight/debate and then someone joins in with "buy a Mac"
Edit - Oops - it is too late, the sniping has begun0 -
My goodness you're all very quick!!
My problem is that after only 2 days (!!!) I got a message - 'The User profile service failed the login'
That was for me - administrator-
I find from a vista forum that you should have more than one administrator - who knew? IT DIDN@T TELL ME THAT AT THE START!
So I'm currently logged in under OH's account and can't create any new accounts.
So I found a complicated fix that involves starting up in safe mode - whatever that is-
But if this sort of thing keeps happening I wil go out of my mind.
i know I've read that microsoft release a new thing and let the users fix all the problems with it but I'dve thought by now Vista would be ok hasn't it been out for about 2 years?
Anyway, I will try this thing after I've had my dinner and I'm feeling up to it!
i only got this new computer because my old one was causing me too many problems and I wanted a quiet life.
TBH £55 is not too much to save my sanity!Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -

If it helps, we've decided at work, which has several hundreds of computers, that we have no intention of downgrading to Vista.
Xp does everything we need it to, and security is fine; there's plenty of experience to support it, plenty of resources on the web, and all our legacy equipment works a treat. Also we don't need to replace or upgrade computers that run XP okay, but would struggle with Vista.A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.0 -
I'll be totally honest and say that I have no personal experience of Vista. What I have experienced is the feedback from many users in forums who share my hobby of digital photography, and who report endless problems in Vista with photo processing programs that worked perfectly under XP.
For this reason alone, I want nothing to do with Vista. I truly believe that Vista will be Microsoft's Nemesis, and perhaps it's no coincidence that Bill Gates has chosen to leave the company before the !!!!!! hits the fan.
Any new computer that I buy will have XP Pro SP3 installed on it, regardless of what it came supplied with.
