Mention Vista and there is always an argument - some people just can't leave it alone.0

i only got this new computer because my old one was causing me too many problems and I wanted a quiet life.
Would that, problem PC, have been running XP?
my limited experience (i started with computers before windows began) XP is like an old armchair, nice and comfortable, well broken in, you know how to avoid the broken spring without even thinking about it, and the rest is just lovely and soft and warm etc....
Vista is the new armchair in the shop, looks ok, but you just know it won't be as comfy as your old one, it can't be.
Remember, your comfy xp armchair was also once new and shiny...
Took me a new pc to consider vista (64), not had a crash yet, everything works out of the box except my epson printer's cd printing facility, and there's a workaround..

Don't understand exactly everything you say (last paragraph), but no my old one was running Windows Me - yes that's right 8 years old and gradually becoming incompatible with everything!
I've only used XP at work and therefore not for the things I'd do at home like photos etc. I have to say that I uploaded a lot of photos yesterday and it was really easy.Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -
I love the 'I've never heard a good word about Vista argument'.
This is a pretty funny video if you have a spare couple of moments

So I'm currently logged in under OH's account and can't create any new accounts.
So I found a complicated fix that involves starting up in safe mode - whatever that is-
When you're in safe mode can you not create a new user account, then restart in normal mode?
You really need to use normal mode - with safe mode you have no anti-virus etc running.0 -
I've also used PC's since before Windows, and have no desire to go back to that, you are right about the comfortable arm chair of XP, and I still curse some things in Vista, but now I have both my laptop and Desktop on Vista and used them for over 6 months, I am happy with it, I can find most things now, and when I look at an XP machine to help a neighbour out, I have to scratch my head for "where it is hidden" - exacty my biggest complaint with Vista originally. Apart from one c*ck up like the OP's, where I just wiped and re-loaded, and now have more than one administrator I have to admit I have had few crashes, though other glitches.
Just a comment from someone who thought she knew PC's well when I was younger! To be honest I would go with Vista as it is the future.
