my apologies i guess i was too harsh and jumped the gun on u.bo_drinker wrote: »Okay very sorry, my mistake. Hope you get sorted soon.
i just wanted to point out that sometimes people find it easier to talk about their problems on anonymous forums rather than face the music with people they know.
apologies for jumping the gun earlier. have a nice day.bubblesmoney :hello:0 -
From what the op says, it appears that the LL wants to charge because his mortgage payment was late and was passing down a charge he incurred.
But agree if the 55 quid was as a late fee for your rent then you are liable.
Surely tho LL's don't cut things so tight that if one payment is late or missed that it totally screws their own financial situation!?Sadly, you don't have any badges yet but keep trying! See what you could get........... oh boo hoo I am crying into my wine.

People do miss rent .You do not have to pay it. It is the banks fault not yours. I would just say that it is not your fault and you can't afford to eat let alone pay his fine(he should have paid it himself if he knew you had not paid it to stop the fine).
I have watched tenants from hell on tv and it took years to evict the most awful tenants so don't panic there is not much he can do.
Is there anything that needs doing? I expect there is, he sounds the sort . Just say count the £55 as me living with the ..........(whatever) broken.not working this month!
Have you had a look at the benefits board? If you can't afford to eat you must be entitled to something.0 -

Unless it is specifically stated in the contract, you are not liable for your landlord's mortgage costs if your rent goes through late.
If being evicted is not a concern (which it seems it is not, since you say in your OP that you are moving out soon), then tell the LL you will not be paying - it is, after all, his responsibility to make his mortgage payments, not yours. He can try and pursue you through the courts for it if he wants, but IMHO he would have trouble winning the case if has nothing in writing which states you should be liable for this.
If you do want to remain on good terms with your landlord, you might want to reach a compromise agreement. Perhaps you could write to him explaining that while you are not in any way legally liable to pay his mortgage-related costs, you are prepared to make a gesture of goodwill and pay, say, 50% of his costs on this occasion. You could then submit a complaint to the bank, assuming they are at fault for failing to make the transfer, listing your costs and requesting compensation for their error.
Incidentally, moodydonkey, I would agree that a *good* landlord would not do this; however, there are a lot of bad/unprofessional landlords out there unfortunately.0 -
He left us with a Illegal boiler for several weeks and theres wire traipsed around the kitchen to extenstion leads.... the stairs carpets is a death trap, the shower is either freezing cold or searing hot. theres exposed wire in the kitchen wall and damp throughout the house.
there is a clause in the contract stating £25 late payment fee.
if i could get out now then my problem would be solved.
