hi,

I dont know where to put this but im sat here crying ...

I arranged to move out of my rented house, put a stop on the standing order and transferred it .... for a reason I still cant work out it didnt go and a week later the LL contacted me and so I transferred it again and it still didnt go ... though the money is there etc. Yesterday he said it still hadnt arrived and he's just rang me and said he wants me to pay a £55 fine which he has incurred from the mortage company as the mortgage payment didnt arrive.... I have now withdrawn the money in cash and can give it him but he's adamant

I am up in arms sat here as I cant afford this ... I have no money in my account and I cant afford anything atm, I am hungry because I havent been able to buy any bread to go with the cheese I already have, and all the food I have doesnt go together like sauce but no pasta etc.

please help, what shall I do.

It's not your fault that he doesn't have provisions there for his mortgage should something like this happen ~ I wouldn't pay it!

It's not that you haven't tried to pay is it? Can you prove to him that you tried??

Doesn't really help much, but cook the pasta, then if you have a tiny bit of oil or marg, mix that in (if you don't, don't worry), then grate the cheese on top. Put it in the grill until the cheese melts and it will taste nice enough! (like a cheats macaroni cheese)

If you are that hungry eat the cheese!!!
I'm sure someone more helpful will be along soon. I don't think he can pass that fine on to you, he must have a contingency plan.
Sadly, you don't have any badges yet but keep trying! See what you could get........... oh boo hoo I am crying into my wine. :D

dont know about ur payment problems, but regarding the food problem this might help. if u r in london etc there will be loads of temples, gurudwara (sikh place of worship) where they serve free food for everyone everyday irrespective of whether u r a believer or not. it is free and many of these temples and gurudwaras do it daily twice a day. the food is vegetarian and wholesome. eg. a typical meal at gurudwara will have 2 types of vegetable curries and a dhal curry and rotis (a type of bread), eat as much as anyone wants. on weekends many places will have loads of dishes including sweets. while at temples u might get the south indian fare unlike in the gurudwaras. south indian fare will be vegetarian, rice, few vegetable curries plus a type of dhal etc and maybe a sweet. not all places do it twice a day but many do. i knew about people who used to eat there daily twice a day for many months when they were on hard times and were unemployed and no as far as i know they dont pester u for donations, u can donate if u please when u r in better times so that others can be helped. the food is not considered as help for needy, infact it is considered as offerings from the devotees to their god and it is distributed in turn to visitors to these places. see if these places can help u out regarding the food problem. similar temples and gurudwaras are there in many other places outside london like newcastle, birmingham, manchester etc and they have similar arrangements for food etc from what i have heard. the cuisine might not be to ur preference but will be wholesome and free. u dont have to stay for any prayer etc, u can just go just for the meal. cant think of anything else that helps. hope u find this useful in the short term. i know about people who made use of these facilities for months together when they were on hard times.
ps:some places allow u to pack food as many people take some home as 'prashad' for others at home to have. but not all places allow this. u have to be there at meal times otherwise food may run out, but doesnt usually run out from what i have heard. the food at these places is available 365 days a year as far as i am aware at many of these places.

Could you agree in principle to repay the £55 at £5 a week or a month or whatever?
  • Hi
I cant give much advice, but as moodydonkey said someone will be along soon to give you good advice.
Do you live close to family or friens? Could yu go round theirs for a cuppa, grub & a chat. You would feel tonnes better.
Can you ring up your bank & ask why they didnt set up your standing order or why there was a delay. Im not sure of the details, but it sounds like the bank have messed up.
When I set up my direct debit, it didnt go into my LL account. She was really worried & I was horrified that it would be late as it was my first months rent to her & I didnt want her to incur any charges. Luckily she didnt fly of the handle (since she could have assumed that I was always a non payer). What had happened was the EA had mucked up the details & then when it was sorted it took about 5 days in cyber space for it to reach her account.
Its a shame your LL is giving you a 50 pound fine.
Was the standing order set up by the EAs?

Jen, post a list of the food you have in on the old style board. They will help you make a meal from it.

The OP doesn't have to pay for it. It's her landlords fine, so nothing to do with her at all.
