OS Daily Thread Sunday 10 August

This is the Daily Thread for Sunday 10th of August 2008. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well...
Morning everyone!
Why am I up so early? Ask the ginger cat who shares our lives! She came in, soaking wet from the garden and yowling as if she had broken a leg or something. She then proceeded to climb up onto the bed onto my chest, and placing her mouth about 2inches from my face yowled louder than a cat ought to be capable of! All I could think of was my poor OH who had only come to bed about 90 mins or so ago after his gig, (unlike myself who was snoring by about 2230...) so I climbed out of bed to see to Treacle. (said ginger cat). Anyway, she wanted feeding as usual but I think the thing that was realllly bothering her was being soaking wet so I had to sit and dry her off with a tea-towel, trying to avoid her nipping at me as she tried to fight with it! By then I was wide awake, so here I am - about to go load the washing machine and start the day.
I actually feel like the new girl and as if I don't deserve to start the thread off when I have only been posting a week or so, but hey, I am awake and here and everyone is so lovely on this thread that I am sure noone will mind just this once!
Today the forecast is for more rain (Quelle suprise) so I will be baking. Going to flick through some recipe books now for further inspiration..I do love a bit of food '!!!!!!' to read. No doubt the OH will find me about 10.00am later this morning, face down in Jamie Oliver (now there is a thought!!;) ) and dribbling attractively.
Anyway I hope everyone is having a good weekend and I will see you all on Monday.
With hugs to all all need them and a Happy Birthday to anyone who is celebrating.

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.
If you can't handle me at my worst then you don't deserve me at my best...
Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I will try again tomorrow.

Morning Diva (whispering so as not to wake anyone else)
I've got tinnitus at the moment due to a blocked ear. It's really loud and sounds a bit like listening to an hgv with it's engine running. Hopefully it'll all be sorted when my ear is syringed. I'm not the only one up in this house - dd(18) isn't very well either and is up and down to the bathroom.
I'm not planning much today. I did some baking and some chutneying yesterday but still have a load of apples to use up. I might just cook them up for pie/crumbles etc and freeze them ready to use.
At the moment the weather is looking none too bad so I might venture out to collect some more raspberries. There are absolutely loads on the bushes and I must have collected about 5lb so far - all in the freezer. I'm planning some raspberry vodka. I've already made some jam.
Well, off to have a look round the site and see if I missed anything yesterday. Have a great day everyone.Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts - DFW Nerd 323

Morning peeps
i`ve been up for a good while (4am) but not really done much, the wm is on but the dw is having a rest as there are not enough pots to fill it so i`ll wash those in a while when the water is hot.
I was going to make sundried tomato bread in the bm overnight so that it would be ready for breakfast but i forgot
i also forgot to get the meat out of the freezer for later so i`ve just done it now, i should get some post-it notes and stick them on my forehead.
I bottled my first wine last night and i now have a clean demijohn to put some more in so thats another job for later.
Outside the weather is ok so far so hopefully i`ll get several jobs in the garden out of the way later too.
Off to make a start now.
Have a good day everyone.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon

Morning. It's raining... So that makes 14 consecutive days with rain now. I thought we were going to escape it today, but obviously not.
It is getting pretty depressing around here. All the summer things you plan to do, but can't.
The annual steam fair has been cancelled a week before the event as they figure already that the ground is too soggy and more rain forcast will only make it worse. First time ever it's been cancelled before it started.
Getting fed up with it.... It rained torrents yesterday. There was flash flooding with man hole covers being lifted etc. I can't imagine what it would be like if you came down here with a tent for a holiday.
Well off to work in a minute. Kids are off to church camp, so it will be quiet about the house for a week or so.

Good morning Diva and welcome to Lelc.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend and (((hugs))) to all.
Well, the last of my guests left yesterday afternoon and I was so shattered that I spent the rest of the day and evening asleep and being waited on by DH!
DS2's wedding was so fantastic and went so well that I am still on cloud nine. The weather had been looking dodgy for most of the morning but, when we were all waiting in the church grounds, the sun came out and the temperature rose and it was the most perfect day. I had called into DS2's in the morning; he showed me his suit and that made me cry! When I saw him in it at the church I thought my heart would burst with pride and happiness! He looked so handsome!
I was expecting the bride to wear something quite modern but she walked down the aise - with the proudest Dad in the world - in a beautiful traditional wedding dress with a full skirt and a long veil and train and literally took everyone's breath away. DS2 couldn't take his eyes off her. The bridesmaids followed behind in their hot pink dresses, shoes and flowers and the ushers had the same hot pink cravats - the effect was stunning. The service was emotional and happy, the organist was awful but no-one minded, the vicar's pen ran out halfway through the signing of the register and that didn't matter either and all the guests wore bright cheerful dresses and ties and the happiness filled the lovely little church. When we all emerged the sun was beaming for the photographs. My DH was in his element driving the beautiful bridesmaids about! All the cars had hot pink and white ribbons and the bride's car was her Dad's lovingly restored Triumph Vitesse which looked stunning. He had taken the front passenger seat out so that there was room for her train and he had made a lovely little back screen from white netting to protect her if it was windy.
The reception was fantastic with the most emotional speeches - not a dry eye was left in the room. I and the bride's Mum were presented with beautiful bouquets of flowers and the whole afternoon and evening went so well, I can hardly believe it. All DS2's friends looked so grown-up - some I hadn't seen for ages and they all kept coming up and surprising me with how grown up they were.
DGS and DGD thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were as good as gold. DGD looked beautiful as a mini version of the older bridesmaids.
We couldn't believe the weather especially as yesterday was such an awful day full of rain.
DS2 texted yesterday afternoon to say they had arrived at their villa in Marbella and were thrilled with it. DS1 and family also left for their holiday in France and texted to say that they had arrived and it was after I knew that they had all arrived safely that I just suddenly felt exhausted but happy and spent the rest of the day dozing on the sofa!
It has been hectic, exhausting, emotional and joyous and wonderful memories have been created. With DS1's wedding last year and DS2's this year, that's both my children married and it's a strange feeling! My work is done!
I can just hear DH getting up so I'll sign off now and pop back later!

I made my chocolate cake yesterday. Trouble is my filling was a bit liquid so the top kept sliding off the bottom. But it doesn't really matter as OH liked it. He went back for seconds which is always a good sign.
Whites are in the washing machine. Must do the darks at some point as well. Did the washing up last night, so I refuse to do it again this morning. It can wait.
I also have a heap of ironing to do. I did a few things this morning, but I really do like my time to myself...so didn't do too much. Just enough to give monkey a few t-shirts to wear today. We're off to granny's so she has to be smart. Well....at least temporarily. We're never smart for too long. We have a habit of taking our t-shirt off and pulling our trousers / shorts down. Then we wander round in our nappy .... putting our hands down it. Kids hey.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

Aww that sounds absolutely fantastic Mioliere! I am so glad it went so well, it sounds like a fantastic happy and beautiful day for everyone.
I woke up this morning to lovely bright sunshine....now it's bucketing down
Never mind, there's not a lot we can do about the weather. The washing machine is doing its thing, so there's going to be lots of wet clothes hanging around the house.
Diva, Treacle sounds totally adorable! My ginger boy, Teddy, was begging to be let out 1st thing. He went back to bed though as soon as the rain started as he's not that daft. I think I'll take a leaf out of his book and go back to my own bed too. It's the weekend, and it'll be five more days before I get a lie in!!
Have a lovely day everyone

Morning all!

I'm not used to these early mornings! <yawn>
Diva, new or not you've done a smashing job of starting the thread.
I suggest making sure you feed the cat before you go to bed. Spaghetti does the same to me if I forget.
Looking forward to another sport-fest, and no housework.
Edit: I forgot to add, I was a bit harsh on the ole Royal Mail yesterday! They tried to deliver the cake on the right day, but my mum had left about an hour and a half previously. Oh well, it should keep ok until Monday.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Morning all,
A busy day ahead DD1, GD (and new BF ) DNiece and DD2 are coming for the day. It's GD birthday on Thurs but DD1 DGD and DN are going to France and GD will be spending her Bday in Disney, A treat from me and DH.
So we are giving presents today. I have to make a Bday cake, going to do a choc one, I split the cake and shove maltesers and sliced milky way in then add choc butter icing to sandwich. Coat the cake in more choc icing and cover sides in choc buttons then top with Thorntons chocs. I did this for DD2's Bday and it was a success. Will bake cauli cheese, crusty bread (in BM now) and salad for lunch. Cake for pud.
Have wrapped presents, I use lots of recycled stuff, ribbon, bows, silver studs etc. They look beautiful. I'm so looking forward to the day, having our girls here. Must vacume and dust. I'ts sunny clear blue skies here so may have lunch in the garden, DH has to mow the lawn then put furniture out. One more coffee them I'll get started.
Mioliere, what a fantastic day you had, see ... we all said it would be allright on the day.
Hugs to all.0 -
Morning everyone
Mioliere - so glad you and your family had a wonderful day, have been checking back often for news
The sun is shining at the moment, but I'm not sure it will last
Watching the Olympics at the mo, will get showered in a bit and do some more ironing whilst watching
Need to put BM on again, make a lemon meringue pie for dinner and clean the bathroom today.
Dinner tonight will be roast beef, yorkie puds, roast potatoes, brocolli, carrots, peas, gravy and horseradish.
Have a lovely Sunday everyone.
(((((hugs)))))Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)0 -
Morning
Kathy, I am so glad it all went well. Our DS is getting married in a few weeks, and I just hope it goes OK. I think the hardest part will be trying not to cry in church, it's hard to believe they are all grown up isn't it
DGD first birthday, and they have a gazebo in the garden, but guess what, it's raining - again:o They have a bouncy castle booked, but that will be useless unless it stops raining - oh well, the party isn't until 3, so maybe it will brighten up by then .
We went out to get a new three piece yesterday, and I was torn between two. I went for the more practical one, but I'm still not sure I made the right choice. If I go back today and change my mind, I think the salesman will commit harikari
Have a good day everyone xYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever
