Tesco - why do people shop there?

I always use mysupermarket to check prices and Tescos is always at least £5 cheaper on my weekly shop. With the £5 vouchers in The News of the World, club card points and the extra points for using a Tesco CC it works out a lot better for me to use Tescos.
Saying that I still go to Asda for some offers that show up on mysupermarket as they are only 30 seconds apart and I take the kids for a walk round Morrisons and Asda once a week (just to get out the house lol) and do a price check and offer check!0 -
I usually shop at tescos as it's a 5 minute walk and asda and sainsburys aren't in walking distance and even on the bus it would take 45mins to get there! I'm quite fed up with tescos as I've recently had two lots of chicken go off before the sell by date and some of their fruit goes mouldy really quickly. I've just ordered an sainsburys online shop instead and since I usually buy supermarket own labels it usually works out around the same price. I'm not so keen on doing online shops at asda as their site isnt very user friendly and again their fruit and veg isn't as good as sainsburys. I just wish that morrisons did online shops as I really miss not being able to go to morrisons, they are my favourite supermarket by farMortgage-free wannabe 2025 £571/30000

Tesco clubcard points - convert them into deals vouchers and I get my car serviced and MOT'd for free! I do collect points from my Tesco credit card as well though, and lots of free till spit points vouchers.
I buy some stuff for work (tea, coffee, juices, squash and other bits and bobs) and Tesco are the ONLY supermarket I have found that can provide me with a VAT receipt if I buy things with VAT on them. It has to be a big Tesco though, smaller Tesco couldn't. Somerfield just said no. Asda did me some handwritten thing and basically told me not to ever ask again! And Tesco are always polite when I ask for the VAT receipt bit at the CS desk.
I found that although Asda generally is cheaper on most things than Tesco, washing powder is more expensive. And Asda is worse on stock control, will sometimes just have none of certain basic items, like wholemeal bread, or milk or natural yogurt.Indecision is the key to flexibility0 -
Tesco is the nearest to me (Asda is approx 12 miles away), there are 2 Morrisons near me too, one is full of Chavs, sells rotten fruit/veg and the ready made stuff is full of crap......saying that though, I do occasionally nip in if they have decent BOGOF on things I buy.
I like Tesco though, as I collect Cubcard Points (got nearly £3000 off my last Holiday) and I use a lot of money off vouchers.
I do like Asda, especially the kids clothes, but don't go there very often.

Was a wee while ago, I did a Tesco online shop and at the same time put the same items in the basket on the Asda website. Asda's shop came up £12  cheaper than the same items in my Tescos basket. So obviously cancelled the Tescos shop and ordered from Asda's. This was a quite a few months ago, so things might be different now.
I usually do my supermarket shop at Asda's or Tescos, or i'll do Morissons or Sainsbury's if I'm passing.2017 - no clutter to be seen challenge: 72/2017

Frege - I do hope you were joking with your comment on ASDA smelling of poor people.
Extreme snobbery if you ask me.Make £2 a day challenge - doing well so far.0 -
I hate to sound like a snob but my local Asda is full of scumbags!
The large asda stores with clothes etc are great though.
I still prefer tescos0 -
Nearest to me and overall cheapest0

I don't know if its the time I want my delivery, but I have never found online shopping that sucessful, Sainsbury's was a TOTAL disaster! over an hour late and half of it missing. Tesco was at least in the time frame but there were sooo many substitutions, and they were expensive items, so I either had them or went without, then I had to go shopping anyway. So I just choose a supermarket and take pot luck on prices, unless there are specific items on special offer or £5 off a £30 shop!0

The Grocer magazine does a weekly price comparison on 33 everyday lines (comparing T's, Asda, Morrisons, Waitrose, Sainsbury's etcc...) and the gap between Waitrose and T's has closed significantly recently. The last time i looked Waitrose was only £2 more.
Of course you can spend a fortune in Waitrose given the great range of fresh foods they have but on general everyday lines there's not much in it. And of course the service is significantly better and the staff more knowledgable.
Oh, if only I had one nearby - I do still so miss Waitrose! Sad isn't it:rotfl:"there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0
