Recently I've seen a few absolutely awful movies, most of them the over-hyped blockbusters (Spiderman 3 and Superman being two prime examples). As a consumer am I entitled to money-back if the movie completely disappoints or if I leave the cinema early because the product is truly awful?
I have a friend who once bought a CD and then got a full refund beacause in her opinion the music was rubbish. Can you do the same with cinema?
Miles.
I have just returned from the US and it is common there for movie goers to ask for a refund if they are not pleased with the quality of the movie.
I have never heard of it happening here. It is a very subjective thing and difficult to argue if the movie is a blockbuster. Give it a try and see how you get on.

Re: Washing Machine Failure !!
Received a reply last week from B&Q saying 'sorry to hear about my faulty machine blah blah blah......wear and tear blah blah...nothing they can do'
This was to be expected and I sent off my second recorded delivery letter to the MD outlining my rights and frustration and my determination to see this through to Small Claims Court if they do not resolve this issue.
Now my problem is this :
As we have a young Family this is causing some inconvenience and the local Laundry bills are adding up to the point of it now coming into the territory of the Laundry bills being comparable to the likely costs of an intial repair !!
I am still waiting for their response to the 2nd letter but my question is this .........
If they do come and mend the machine can I still reclaim the laundry costs and any inconvenience costs ??
If they dont mend the machine and I have to take legal action what would you suggest that I do with the machine in regards getting it mended to eleviate the inconvenience as I assume that the legal route may be quite lengthy ???
How do I quantify inconvenience is terms of cost ???
I look forward to your advice

Yes you can. keep a detailed log of all your expenses.
If they dont mend the machine and I have to take legal action what would you suggest that I do with the machine in regards getting it mended to eleviate the inconvenience as I assume that the legal route may be quite lengthy ???
If you don't get a satisfactory reply to your letter go to the Small Claims Court. Have you informed B&Q that you will do this if they don't deal with your problem? Tell them that you will be getting the machine repaired to prevent further inconvenience to yourself and further cost to them.
How do I quantify inconvenience is terms of cost ???
You will have to come to a figure that you feel is reasonable. If it is too high the Judge will reduce it to a more realistic figure so you have nothing to lose if you over estimate. Take into account time and inconvenience in having to take your laundry for cleaning, fuel, telephone/postage costs etc.
I look forward to your advice

Is it reasonable if I do not get a satisfactory answer very soon to get it repaired and then I can still take them to court for reimbursment of repair / laundry / inconvenience costs ??0

purchased a vibrating baby bouncer from Argos manufactured by summer in may of this year ready for my little girl who was born in June and today I noticed that the metal in the bottom section the bit where babies legs sit near the hinge was cracked I pushed it up to then fold it to take a better look and the whole thing snapped also the cover is ripping at the top by the head she is only 4 months and weighs 14lb so not a huge baby either how should this happen! I am very dissapointed in this product my little girl is now 4 months and I do not want to have to go out and buy another which she will be grown out of very soon. I do not have my reciept from Argos I have no proof of how long I have had it other than the fact my daughter is 4 months old. I have 4 children all who have had bouncers and this is the first one I have ever had that broke.
where do I stand?
thanks in advance

It is reasonable so long as you give them a chance to respond. Tell them in writing what you plan and that you will get the machine repaired and sue in the SCC if you have not heard from them in 7 days.

Argos may require proof of purchase unless the item is exclusive to them. Do you not have a cheque or credit card payment that would help you?
Initially, go back to the store where you bought it and see what they say. Without a receipt they may only allow a replacement or credit note.

Hi, I bought a back pack for my daughter from the Tesco "Back to School" range and and within a few weeks of term, two of the zips had broken. I managed to repair them but one of them fell apart again quite quickly. As we had no other bag my daughter struggled on but it was totally inadequate so I took it back to Tesco today to ask for a credit note. (Most unusually for me I can't find the reciept). The lady told me that she agreed that the bag was not fit for purpose but without the reciept there was nothing she could do. I pointed out that it was an own brand bag so was obviously bought in Tesco and I would be happy with a credit note not a refund but she just restated that I had to have a receipt in order for her to be able to do anything about it. Please could someone tell me if that is a legal response. I thought that I would at least get a credit note to spend in store, as it is so obviously a Tesco item. Thanks0

Don't think they can do that and are just trying it on. How did you pay? Debit or credit card? If you did then show them copy of bank or credit card statement. I am sure Art will have the answer. Also check with Consumer Direct, they will guide you.0

Tesco can ask for proof of purchase but as this was an own-brand item you have provided it in the faulty product.
Initially, go back to the store and ask to see the store manager, not the customer service manager. Put your case to him and ask him to give you a refund/replacement or credit note. If this doesn't work tell him that you will be writing to Sir Terry Leahy the MD of Tesco.
