  • I agree with the crown thing - sometimes I put loads of effort in, loads of opinion to guide someone who might be thinking of purchasing and try and try to make it easy to read and interesting too. Still no crown.....Then there are people throwing out 5 plus reviews a day, with what seems like bland opinion or their life story (not much about the product), who get a crown easy peasy!! Agree with the earlier post - might as well stick to the basic and give up with the effort.

Don't get me started on the useful or somewhat useful rates - always, always given by people who have joined 5 mins ago. Will def stop rating new people - shouldn't bother me - but it does!!

I really don't understand why people don't think a useful is a good rating. I'm getting tighter and tighter with my ratings because I believe it's bad for the site to keep rating everything as very useful. In the last week I have had around a dozen emails asking why I rated a review as somewhat useful or not useful, which I don't mind because that's not a good rating but if someone asked me why I had rated them as only useful I would point them to my about me page and let them read that I only rate very useful if I think the review is exceptional.
To be exceptional i have to beable to make up my mind about whether to buy a product based on that review without having any further questions. That's just my opinion on what is exceptional and of course different people think different things.
I must say though that I admire the people who ask for feedback more than those who read my reviews and then don't bother to rate them again. Not that people are obliged to return every rate but I've noticed that a lot of people who I don't rate as very useful will read my review without rating, probably out of some kind of petty spite. It's kind of sad that people get that worked up over a rating.
Every review you write can't be exceptional in my opinion and the fact that I've had very useful on pretty much every review I've written in the last two months makes me think that people don't read my reviews or are overly generous because I know it's not because my reviews are exceptional every time.

Make me do and mend- I think you're mistaken. There are a lot of members who have been around for a while (much longer than me) who rate honestly and that means that not every rating will be very useful. I give out more useful's than very usefuls (I think) and probably more not useful's than that and I'm not a new member, just an honest one.

I always find the reviews that have been crowned to be of a very high standard but I understand that it can be frustrating if you think your review is worthy of a crown but don't get one.

I am starting to wonder if its not just your writing skills that play a part but also how much you participate in the site. Put it this way, if I spend a lot of time reading and rating, I seem more likely to earn a Crown after it. Just a thought!

There's some truth in that. The more people who read your review, the more chance that someone will bring it to the attention of those who dole out the crowns. The more you are visible on the site, the more your reviews will be read.

BUT - remember that Dooyoo are still the arbiter of crowns and so however visible you are, the review still has to be good (in their eyes!)
  • Thanks for your recent participation on dooyoo UK.

We are writing to let you know however, that some of your contributions to the
site appear to be below our minimum standards for Premium Reviews. These
reviews must contain AT LEAST 150 words of genuine, useful consumer opinion.
Any copied, repeated, or irrelevant text (i.e. any information that is not
related to the specific product being reviewed) is not included in the 150
word count, the same goes for repeated product names or other forms of
padding. Using these methods to reach the 150 word minimum is called Word
Limit Fraud and is considered abuse on dooyoo.

For more information please see our Site Rules:

    http://members.dooyoo.co.uk/community/dooyoo_siterules/

In order to be fair to the majority of members on dooyoo, who spend a great
deal of time making sure that each review is of the highest possible quality,
we cannot allow sub-standard Premium Reviews to be awarded. These reviews are
also not useful to consumers using the site to research their product purchases.

This is a warning that if your sub-standard reviews are not improved, we may
not be able to process your dooyooMiles redemption requests. We have locked
some of the reviews that are of a sub-standard quality, however it is your
responsibility to ensure all reviews – locked or unlocked – meet our
requirements. Furthermore, continuing to post sub-standard reviews may result
in your account being closed on dooyoo. We would ask that you spend some time
checking through all of your reviews to make sure that they exceed our minimum
    requirements.

If you need help on improving your reviews, try reading some of the Crowned
Reviews in the categories you're interested in (see Newest Crowns page here:
    http://members.dooyoo.co.uk/community/inside/5/0/0/0/) or contact the relevant
    dooyooCommunity Guide (see page:
    http://members.dooyoo.co.uk/community/_page/advice_guides/) and they will be
    happy to assist you.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

    Best regards,

    Your dooyooTeam

Yet these reviews are all voted between useful and very useful

  • Just because the majority of your reviews have been rated as useful or very useful doesn't mean they actually are for the casual reader. As a result you cannot judge by them whether your reviews are truly helpful to the curious consumer as opposed to Dooyoo members.

The fact Dooyoo have read your reviews and found them to be substandard shows you can disregard those ratings and if you want to be paid you need to look at them again and improve upon them.

That e-mail from Dooyoo tells you what is wrong with them - read it again and take a cold hard look at your reviews and then apply yourself and make them better.

AliceMegan93- judging by some of the crowns this week, your best bet is to write about 1000 words, make about 500 of them about something totally random, and then write a bit about the actual product at the end

Seriously though, I've looked at a couple and they are lacking a bit of detail, especially with regards to what the product actually does. And whilst on one hand you're asked for your opinion of the product, and that's what the review should be about, on the other hand unless you put in a ton of stuff that can be googled anyway it's judged less useful. So rather than just a review it need to be a technical report plus review.
Moving onto a better place...Ciao
  • Hmmph it all seems a bit random on dooyoo as some of the ones they've classed as mine that are ok are worse than the ones theyve classed not

    Thanks anyway Fiver29 :)

    Spot the disillusioned dooyoo-er! ;)

Sometimes we all wonder why something got a crown. We feel that it isn't as good as stuff we've written or seen about the site. It's a product of peer review though. Just as very few opinions would seem to genuinely be VU to all, so too the crowns. We might not agree with dooyoo's choice but unltimately they chose the ops.

You don't need to write tech reports (and, in fact, if you could easily google the info then many will mark down - particularly guides). What we need is bags of opinion, maybe a little (but not much) scene setting to say how you use the product (or why you had it etc) so that other consumers can put the review in context (eg " I normally don't go for horror films but was persuaded to see this one " will tell a reader that horror isn't your genre) and, if relevant, factual comment that sits alongside the opinion.

Alice, if you want me to take a look at any of your ops then PM me details and I will.

I have to say I'm quite disillusioned with Dooyoo lately. I know crowns aren't the be all and end all, but I see other people getting crowns for some very meh reviews, seems they are just automatically given a crown for turning up.

I'm just gonna go back to writing about 4-500 words rather than putting loads of time and effort into my reviews. Someone commented that it was madness once, and I'm inclined to agree with them now.

I know exactly what you mean! I find it really disillusioning when you put lots of time and effort (and genuine opinion!) into a review that gets a lot of positive reactions and comments - but no crown. :o

For some reason, I only get crowns for my shorter reviews that get written in the shortest amount of time with the least amount of planning! It does make you think you may as well just right any old review as even the churners earn the same amount for much less work. Unfortunately, I just don't have the time and inclination to churn so I'll continue with my way and just keep having the odd moan to keep me going between crowns. ;)

I have it in my profile
My criteria for VU is that I actually enjoyed your review and it gave me a clear picture of if the product is for me or not (regardless of if I agreed with your viewpoint or not)-and if I learned something new from your review :)

Lots of people over-rate on dooyoo and some don't even bother reading the reviews so that makes honest ratings look bad when they honestly aren't.
