I have to say I'm quite disillusioned with Dooyoo lately. I know crowns aren't the be all and end all, but I see other people getting crowns for some very meh reviews, seems they are just automatically given a crown for turning up.

I'm just gonna go back to writing about 4-500 words rather than putting loads of time and effort into my reviews. Someone commented that it was madness once, and I'm inclined to agree with them now.

I get crowns for 4-500 word reviews anyway so I don't see why you would feel a need to increase it much more? Completely possible to write crownworthy reviews in this amount of words. Film review for example, brief plot outline, loads of opinion, conclusion. Easy!

I agree with Fiver. Not so much the crowns although I know EXACTLY what you mean, but some of the ratings are surprising to say the least.

I got a useful yesterday that I honestly don't think is warrented. DH says I shouldn't care but I do. I work hard on my reviews and try to make them readable particularly as I really enjoy reading reviews and I would hate to think any of mine were rubbish. Maybe its an overreaction as I am feeling a bit sorry for myself as I am poorly but it still upset me.

I am so glad I found the site as I have learnt such a lot and have really enjoyed doing so. There are some really fantastic things to read on dooyoo, it has helped me in loads of ways and I have bought books, DVD's after reading reviews on there. Also I am hoping to get a burglar alarm after reading about a cat friendly one on there.
It IS a great site. I am still hacked off though.
Blind as you run...aware you were staring at the sun.

And when no hope was left inside on that starry starry night.

    :A Level 42- the reason I exist. :A

Once again I DO NOT understand the point of being hacked off by U ratings. U=useful. How on earth is that an insult? A useful is a good rate. Just because someone has actually read your review (you don't honestly believe all those VU's have do you?) and rated honestly you get the hump? You cannot write the perfect, please anyone review so stop killing yourself and write reviews that you think are important.

Crowns are sporadic. I can go weeks without one and get three at once. At least they are clear though. Dooyoo is the only site whose payment system is totally straightforward. You might not always agree with the crowns but at least their is a variety of people getting them.

I didn't say it was logical but it is TRUTHFUL:o and is exactly how I feel. (I have just had virtually the same conversation with my DH!)
and yes I DO believe the ratings....... I carefully read all the reviews I rate. Honest.

Well I wouldn't! Post a review, wait 20 seconds and refresh. 99% of the time at least three people have read and rated it. Are they reading your review??? Nope.

Fair enough, maybe I have been knocking around too long and have forgotten what it is like to be new and subject to criticism. Water off a ducks back and all that.
  • Have to say I was rather peeved a couple of weeks ago when I got a Useful rating on a crowned review from someone who had posted a review which was poor and I had rated SU. I was a bit fired up so I reported the user to Dooyoo but they responded, quite rightly, with the comment that a "Useful" is a positive rating. It's only taken me several months but I am starting to develop a thicker skin towards ratings :o

As for Crowns, I have given up trying to work out the logic behind how they are awarded and consider them to be a nice little extra rather than something to expect.

It does surprise me however when something I have read that is exceptional isn't rewarded with a Crown and I am starting to wonder if its not just your writing skills that play a part but also how much you participate in the site. Put it this way, if I spend a lot of time reading and rating, I seem more likely to earn a Crown after it. Just a thought!

I spend (or spent) quite a lot of time on the site, so I don't think that makes a difference.

I don't expect to get crowns, but I find it annoying when some rather average reviews get crowns. I read one the other day where 30% of the review was completely off topic, yet it still got a crown.
