Good, I suddenly worried that I might be mucking up the stats.

I'll do a check with the bosses (!) to make sure!

  • Yup... it's all likely. And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that it's definitely not what everyone calls "hacking", just that out of all the possibilities, "hacking" is the least likely, yet it's something people are willing to grasp as the truth and run with. I've seen reviews on Dooyoo where the author creates concern because they've posted about "hacking" with no actual evidence whatsoever, just hearsay from another member. It seems very easy for something like that to take on a life of its own on a site such as Dooyoo, so I believe everyone should be vocal about stopping such ill-informed claptrap if they see it on site.

To be fair, whilst I realise there is a technical, geeky (:P) definition of 'hacking', it could be defined for the purposes of this discussion as some of the other intrusions mentioned above - a teenager using his mum's dooyoo account (probably because she saved it on the computer), or a disgruntled employee doing the same to a colleagues account, or someone knowing or guessing the password of a parent's/enemy's/teacher's or whatever account.

I'm thinking the point here is that we're saying that someone altered the orignal user's account for nefarious purposes - I don't think that anyone was accusing dooyoo's security of being lax.

But that could just be me - your mileage may vary.

I know what people are saying, Grovesy... I just think that the choice of words used is poor and that the term "hacking" mostly provokes thoughts of people using nefarious means to gain access to an account (beyond weak/saved passwords, of course). It's, IMO, a sensationalist term and many people will jump to conclusions.
  • I shall bear this in mind and in future use the term "misappropriated account" to minimise any worried responses from people ;):D

Confirmed that no stats muck up occurs when you hit "back"!

What happens to people on dooyoo who revenge rate?
I reported someone for revenge rating (and plagiarism) and now they're claiming that I revenge rated them. I didn't revenge, I just didn't feel I could rate their review highly when it seemed to be copied from someone else but I'm concerned that dooyoo may just act on everyone who is accused of revenge rating.

No need to fear dooyoo do thoroughly investigate claims of revenge rating as often people are complaining about a perfectly justified rate. If the review is copied dooyoo will know this and there will be no action against you. I would NU any review with copied content.

I'm led to believe Dooyoo look at all issues before acting, so if you're innocent, it's unlikely any action will be taken against you.

Revenge rating can be a funny one if you come across a !!!! on Dooyoo. I've seen people be accused of revenge rating even though they were the rater first. Sometimes people confuse low ratings with revenge ratings.

Did you report the review to Dooyoo for being copied?

Yes, I did report the review for being copied so hopefully dooyoo should sort that out soon. Has anyone else noticed that plagiarism is getting more common?

I have noticed quite a few people warning that such and such a review has been copied from another site. I don't really visit many other review sites so I don't notice myself.
Moving onto a better place...Ciao
