Bravo! I think this is one of the most important things that anyone's said on this thread or its predecessor. The benefits I've gained from Dooyoo go far and beyond the cheques and vouchers I've received from the site including, but not restricted to:
- Being asked to write articles for magazines based on reviews I've posted on Dooyoo
- Meeting some fabulous people in real life as opposed to on the internet
- An element of networking related to the above
- Finding out about some cool things as a result of reading reviews that interest me
- Being able to improve my written English which, while never poor, always had room for improvement

where can i find information on reviewing articles.
i'm only known with online surveys and want to make more money.
Can some one give me a link?
What exactly do you want to know? There are two forums related to Dooyoo:
http://www.opinionators.co.uk/mainboard/index.php
and
http://www.reviewwritersforum.co.uk/
Join either of these and ask all the questions you want. They're both quite quiet these days, but it only takes a few people to become active and they'd flourish once more.0 -

I don't see any irony in this at all, frankly. I have never churned on Dooyoo nor advocated churning. In fact, I would specifically advise against it as it means that your reviews will get fewer ratings and will be of much poorer quality.
I probably have 'thanked' people for confirming that they have received cheque because it is reassuring to new members that Dooyoo does indeed pay out as promised. This counteracts other people's claims that Dooyoo doesn't pay out because their (possibly churned out substandard) reviews haven't been paid for by Dooyoo. I think reassurance and confirmation of cheques being recieved is highly useful, personally.
What you consider to be 'proper Dooyoo-related advice' is, as you mention regarding rating, entirely subjective. If I find a post to be useful to me personally, or worthy of acknowledge of sorts, then I will 'thank' it, regardless of whether it is what you might consider 'proper' advice.
I also choose to return rates because I think it is a matter of courtesy and good manners. That doesn't mean that I rate every other review as 'Very Useful' or necessarily expect that in return. I do feel aggrieved when a new member writes 151 words of crap and then rates one of my crowned reviews as 'somewhat useful' - 5 minutes after receiving a useful rating from myself. And yes - that is blatant revenge rating!
Camp Freddy - some of your posts on this thread do come across to me as having a certain air of contempt for MSE members. Admittedly, some MSE members do want to kill the Golden Goose but the majority write decent quality reviews and genuinely become involved in the Dooyoo community.
Just as with the Dooyoo rating system, people will thank posts on here according to their own personal preferences and an individual's style of writing can influence whether the post is genuinely useful or not.0 -

Personally, you might not [have advocated churning]. Overall though, this forum (or specifically this thread and its predecessor) is more concerned with the money-making than the review writing. To say otherwise is disingenuous. Therefore it is ironic that MSE members are complaining about churners - people who only want to make money and not contribute to the community.I probably have 'thanked' people for confirming that they have received cheque because it is reassuring to new members that Dooyoo does indeed pay out as promised. That's fair enough and if these earnings posts were being thanked alongside other informative posts, then you'd have a point. I still think that earnings/payment-related posts are thanked a lot more than those, for example, posted by guides about improving review quality or community interaction, not by you per se, but in general. I'd maybe even go so far as to suggest that the guides are thanking the helpful posts and MSE members are thanking the payout posts. Take from that what you will.
Therefore, if people ARE thanking those that talk about cheques, the assumption has to be that's what important to people... so going back to the beginning of your post, MSE members complaining about churners is ironic, no?And yes - that is blatant revenge rating!
No it's not. You might suspect that it is... and you might even be right, but the only people that can say for certain are the rater themselves and possibly Dooyoo under certain conditions. It will also become increasingly more difficult to spot any (non-NU) revenge rate as this concept of returning rates is being promoted around the site and is being taken up by more and more members. All you can do is report an suspicions to Dooyoo, but even if they do remove a rating, this is not necessarily evidence of revenge rating, but rather just Dooyoo trying to keep a member happy.Camp Freddy - some of your posts on this thread do come across to me as having a certain air of contempt for MSE members. Admittedly, some MSE members do want to kill the Golden Goose but the majority write decent quality reviews and genuinely become involved in the Dooyoo community.
Sorry, but I don't see the evidence to back up your claims. The previous cartel-like action in the original thread when the first influx of MSE members came to Dooyoo, the churning that went on in the same time period, the thanking of cheque/earnings related posts in this thread, the content (and amount) of posts in other threads talking about cashing out/hitting targets and the subject matter of threads when I type "dooyoo" into the forum search engine suggests to me that monetary reward in some form is the primary reason for membership for MSE members on Dooyoo. As a Dooyoo member primarily and MSE member, I don't want to see MSE members take the !!!! again on yet another site for the sake of a few pence, especially not on one I enjoy as a hobby. While I don't think I view MSE members with contempt (well, maybe one or two), I will freely admit to being concerned about those that post purely for the money.0 -
anyone having problems with points showing up? i got to around £30 and the reviews since havent been showing up even though over 150 words. Are the ones in the general discussion counted the same? (like 'should smoking be allowed in public places?' etc)
thanks0 -
In Speaker's Corner, you don't get the 50p posting reward. I believe you only get the 1.5p per read and any potential Crown earnings.0

Like i said i got it after writing around 37 reviews, i got a few crowns and have really got into reading and ratin other reviews so taking the time to do things right and use Dooyoo as more then just a quick penny does pay off in the end!
I did say that I would post when I received it so i am telling u now!
I am looking forward to the Dooyoo team coming back from their break and updating all the crowns etc. Should be interesting!!

Why? If you like writing in speakers' corner, continue to do so. Because, really, otherwise, the maths doesn't work.
Think about it. Say you're watching a movie ONLY to review it (i.e. not because you actually feel like watching a film).
So, call it 2 hours to watch the film. Now let's say that you are writing a decent review, spending, say (to make the maths easy) half an hour on writing the review (a 500 word review with proofreading and revisions). So that's 2 and a half hours.
You've made 50p immediately upon posting the review. Say you get 25 reads (not unreasonable if you're not churning, but aren't yet a well-known member). At 1.5p a read, that's 37.5p - on top of the 50p that's 87.5p. Even if you get a crown (£1.50) that's a grand total of £2.38 (rounding up the half pence for convenience).
So you've spent 2 and a half hours to earn £2.38. If my maths are right, that's just over £1.05 an hour. And that's ONLY if you get a crown - much less likely if you've written a 500 word review just for the cash. Worth it?
On the other hand, you watch a movie. You really enjoy it (or you absolutely loathe it) - you were going to watch the film anyway. You write a heartfelt review - this is probably more than 500 words, but that's ok - the time just flew, because you really enjoyed writing the review. You're keen to see what other dooyoo member thought of your review, so you read and rate around whilst awaiting feedback. You exchange a few comments and PMs with members (because you expressed an opinion). Now, you've probably spent more time on this review in total (and, to be fair, probably made a bit more money, but that's not the point), but it's been leisure time - any money you've made has been a bonus. Every second you've spent, you've chosen to. You watched the film because you wanted to - you wrote the review because you felt strongly; you read and rated around because it was fun. You've still earned maybe £3.00 tops - but how would you rather earn it?
So....which is worth it? You're not going to get rich either way, but the second way is at least as much fun as visiting http://icanhascheezburger.com/, and a tadge more lucrative.
That's my take, anyway

I joined Dooyoo the other day and am already addicted! It's actually more fun than i thought it would be. I've actually taken the time with my reviews and thinking about them which makes the site more enjoyable to use. (though so far i am only reviewing books/dvd's i love.0
