Be careful with Argos - it's very different to Pet Plan. i.e. Argos (Platinum) is limited by condition rather than a true lifetime policy. Likewise Directline

The good type of lifetime policy are AXA, Halifax, HSBC & NFU.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I did a test quote for a cat on Halifax for another thread and it came in at 52% of the cost of a similar Pet Plan quote, so you can save money and still get a lifetime policy.

    Hi

We've just taken out cover with Halifax for our three cats. Seemed a very similar policy to Petplan but half the price.

    Also £20 off via quidco

I haven't used Quidco, but I probably should have.
Quidco collects referral commissions from online merchants and passes them all on to our members.

  • Just joined that quidco thingy and went through Argos. They wouldn't give me a quote for some reason.
However, put the exact same details in Halifax and it came in at £3 per month for basic cover and £6 for the Xtra cover.
So...I've taken out the Xtra cover and will ring Petplan tomorrow. £3 a month isn't alot but it soon adds up!!

    Thanks guys

Another Halifax claim (different vet) went through with no problems and no deductions.

Last night my lovely Cleopops suddenly started fitting behind the sofa. We couldn't figure out what was happening. My OH thought she was choking & I was just panicking & had no idea what to do.

She started to hyperventilate really badly afterwards & we jumped into a taxi & took her to the 24 hr Vet in Chiswick. They kept her in & have given her loads of tests. She will have to have an MRI scan in the next couple of days & be in for observation.

She's otherwise completely healthy & has no history of any problems other than a slight clicky leg so this has all come as a huge shock. So far it has cost nearly £1000 for the treatments & tests. The MRI will cost £2000 on it's own & she will undoubtedly be costing more to treat as they are keeping her in for observation. Thank God I have insurance as this will cost at least £3000 - £4000!!! Even with the insurance I have to pay 15% of the costs so that will be hundreds.

Please think about getting insurance for your pet if you haven't done already. It might save you having to make a horrible decision later
nothing to see here, move along...
  • Hope everything goes ok!
