If you go back on this thread you will see that genuine life cover ones include AXA, Halifax, HSBC, NFU and M and S - just noted Animal Friends have life cover on their gold and platinum policies. There are others but start off getting some quotes from these so you have a comparison.0

Animal Friends used to be underwritten by E&L, who are terrible, but they have changed to Red Sands now, so they might be OK.When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0

Oh yes, E and L have the WORSE name.0

Never had pet insurance.
IF I use petplan then the vets deal direct with them.
Petplan do a buget cover for about £8 pm (pedigree cat). I think its £3,000 per condition per year. I presume they won't renew if there is some expensive condition (perhaps they won't ever renew if you claim?).
MSE had one that offered some bronze cover for £10 pm.
I don't want cover for x, y , z. Just vets bills.
What do I look out for? Is petplans budget one good?
Getting a second cat at the end of the month (any BOGOFs:rotfl: ).0 -
I will merge you into the long Pet Insurance thread!Signature removed for peace of mind0

pet plan have never refused to renew my cover in 14 years with them - and i claimed for a couple of very expensive conditions - cancer in my rabbit (£3000 in one year) and cancer in my cat (£12,000 in 18 months).
personally, what with vet fees being so high, and the technology available now (at cost) to treat things, i would go for a cover that offered £5k plus a year, and true for life cover.0 -
I have also taken out M&S pet insurance because of the option to pay a few pence per month more and have no excess to pay. I looked at all the specialist pet insurance companies and M&S have by far the best benefits, they don't limit insurance to amount per condition, instead it's £7000 per year. I would highly recommend taking out pet insurance, especially this one. My golden retriever has just turned 1, about 6 mths ago she started losing her hair more than usual. We've mounted up £1000 in vets bills having tests, it turns out she has an allergy and will need regular injections to control it. This isn't life threatening but something we will have to claim for on a regular basis. Today I received a cheque for all my vets bills with no excess deducted, M&S paid up without any hesitation, even though we've been insured for less than a year with them. What more can you ask for?
When my cat developed a skin allergy, my vet said he couldn't recommend anything (but charged me £30 anyway :-/) - it was the vagaries of getting old! But someone suggested giving her garlic (which I squeeze onto her food from a capsule) I then disguise the garlic with a teaspoon of codliver oil. It took about 6 months, but from looking absolutely dreadful, she is now like a young kitten and has thick soft fur.
Just thought you might like to try this, as a friend decided to try it with her dog and found it helped with the dog's allergy to fleas.if i had known then what i know now0 -
I just took basic insurance for my 5 month springer with petplan... £17.48 per month I think thats expensive but my vet only deal with petplan direct and I cant afford massive vet fees.0

so I guess a vet's opinion would be VERY welcome on this. As my oldest's ear infection has been diagnosed as an allergy too.:eek:0 -
i was under the impression that cats were allergic to garlic and onion too...maybe not in this case!0
