OK guys, treble checked with More Than and their policy is definitely one that covers a condition only until the pot runs out.
I am mad, you need a policy that tops up the amount every year.
Some of those are - Petplan, Halifax, HSBC, AXA, M and S and NFU.0 -
I'll second that. I just came off more than as it was going up to £21 per month and when I took it out life cover wasnt really aroundThe will to save every money saving penny we can0
-
Just dont ever, ever get a policy which will only pay out for 12months on any condition as it is then up to you to keep up the costs. There are also a couple of companies to avoid - I am sure they are in the other thread as well. On the other hand.. More Than are one of the best for claims handling, if not THE best, so money saving may just be penny pinching by moving away.
GSD X - keep the amounts high - costs can run high.Garantissez-moi de mes amis, je saurai me defendre de mes ennemis0 -
If you got unlucky £4,000 could go quick, my Aunt's Cavalier King Charles Spaniel had it's eye damaged by her Cat & had to have treatment in Birmingham & that came to £4,000!
Mine only has a free policy right now as she's a Rescue & came with six weeks free Charity Insurance with Pet Plan but i'll be renewing it with them onto their £12,000 policy & hopefully never needing it!
Also, how old is she? Some will have a fixed excess + a % of the claim to be paid by you when the Dog gets older, More Than do & so do Pet Plan, mine's only five right now but when she's older maybe she'll have to change to Axa (I have my Cat with Axa, i'm not sure what they're like to pay up, but the policy seems excellent, £7,000 for life cover & they underwrite alot of others, might be worth getting an online quote?)0 -
hello i have a 2 year old labrador cross, i have not got a clue about pet insurance and dont know what first steps to take could somebody point me in the right direction as to what to look for and how to go about getting good pet insurance? Thank you so much
You need a policy that covers each condition for life, some only cover it for the first 12 months, so say the pet gets diabetes or arthritis, or some other condition that they will have for the rest of their life, after 12 months these policies no longer pay anything.
Other policies pay up until a certain amount is used up per condition, so maybe £4,000 per condition. So if the pet gets arthritis it'll pay £4,000 of treatment for that & then stop.
For life will pay the amount each year until the pet dies. Also, try to get a fixed excess, some will want a fixed amount PLUS a % of the cost on top. Also, a good company that pays up, so NOT E&L!
Axa, Pet Plan & M&S are good but out of those I think only Axa don't (Currently) have the % when the pet gets older.0 -
Hi
I hope this is the right place for this. I have been lucky to bring 2 gorgeous male kittens into our house (or have agreed to let us be there slaves)
they have had their jabs and they've both had the chop too - currently they don't go out (too cold) but they will do when it starts to warm up
obviously we would like to have them insured when they start to go outside but pet insurance is new to me and it's confusing me a lot
any hints/tips/advice would be wonderful - including which companies to avoid!
they will be 6 months old on Jan 22ndTrying to get on top of finances one step at a time0 -
Look backwards up the thread - there are a number of companies that give real life time cover.
Oh and wishing you all a long happy time together x0 -
thanks
I hope we do too!
just a quick question above the previous posts (and hence my post above) is there a difference between insurance companies for the animal they cover? ie would a company offering good cover for dogs also be good for cats?
or is that a really stupid question?sorry I'm very new to this
Trying to get on top of finances one step at a time0 -
They're probably just as good for both cats & dogs. Pet Plan, M&S, Axa, Direct Line, RSPCA are all supposed to be good, but remember a couple have the % & also not for life cover0
-
I think all those have for life except (surprisingly) RSPCA and Direct Line.
Nope, of course it isnt a stupid question. The aristo of pet insurance is the dearest Petplan policy - personally after that one Id look at AXA and work along seeing what the benefits are and the exclusions.
