No experience but:
1. There used to be a high percentage excess when your dog reaches 8 (35%). That said, they look to have changed much of their policy since (2) below.
2. They're no longer underwritten by E&L, so you can ignore those older comments when you search.
Going bust = You're screwed. Likewise if they decide to pull out of the insurance game. Other companies will take you on but won't cover the preexisting condition.0 -
hi,
i think i have made a huge mistake, i have insured our dog with pet insurance .co.uk. it seemed a good lifetime qoute, i now see that they are part of e&l. has anyone experience pet insurance .co.uk,i am still in the 14 day cancellation period thankfully so will cancel, just wanted to know if they are okay?0 -
Never heard of them, but just the fact E and L are involved ...............
Just had a quick look, there are two different policies, one for life. Actually, they have made a bit of a bloomer there as they describe the for life policy as
"Our lifetime cover policy is our most popular policy and provides essential vets fee cover up to £4000 for each condition each month."
Update - I emailed them for info re this and I had a mail back saying it was correct and that they pay up to £4k for each condition per month. Ive have asked for clarification on this, I cant see that they would be willing to pay out £48k a year for one condition.??0 -
i have just got a new kitten she is 5 months old and looking around for some pet insurance , i ahev come across these guys ,,pet protect http://www.petprotect.co.uk/
anyone had any dealings , are they any good? they also offer no excess on first year and first month free.is it to good to be true? they are via quidco tooDont forget that little Thanks button , only takes a sec0 -
Just had a look, seems ok but pricey. Also the excess is £75 plus a percentage if the dog is over a certain age.
Have a look at petplan and see how they compare.0 -

What happens if you take out life cover with one company and then your pet has an on going condition and the insurance company go bust, no other company will take you on, or is there some sort of compensation scheme?
I just looked at Animal Friends as well. The cost is considerably less than what Saga wants to charge me for this year's new premium. However, I'm concerned about their underwriter. Seems to be a very small company relatively speaking and family owned.FREEDOM IS NOT FREE0 -
Just compared Halifax with Saga. Halifax just quoted me £570.19 for their super cover (£6,000/year). My renewal premium with Saga comes in at £436.50 to include £10 for pet travel extension (£5,000/year). Residence is London. Dog is 4 1/2 yr. old Cocker with no current health problems.
Halifax quoted me £271.85 last year when they were with AXA. Now they are underwritten by Agria (a Swedish company) - What an amazing jump in premiums - more than double!FREEDOM IS NOT FREE0 -

Just took a look at their web site - something doesn't seem right. Their terms and conditions about their web site say something about info may not be accurate. (Which probably means that they can not be held to it.) That old adage comes to mind - too good to be true. Their standard policy only pays £4000 for 12 months, but the lifetime can pay up to £48,000 for 12 months - the difference in premium doesn't justify that jump.FREEDOM IS NOT FREE0 -
Hmm, doesnt make sense does it.0

That's why I was concerned. But then what come back do you have with any insurance company if they go broke. In the current financial climate if some of the big bank can get in trouble surely the same can happen to some of the big insurance. So really there's no guarantee if I take out life cover with company A and my dog develops a life long condition, then company A goes bust, I wouldn't be able to get cover for that condition with any other company. It's a minefield.0
