The use of garlic and other members of the Lily family such as onions, shallots, and chives in the cat's diet is not advised. Ingestion of these plants in a raw, cooked, or dried form can lead to damage of the red blood cells, which are rejected by the body from the bloodstream, and a continued use of garlic or onions can eventually result in hemolytic anemia. If the anemia is not controlled by discontinuing the use of the plants, it can potentially lead to death. Less significant but important is that raw garlic and onions irritate the mouth, esophagus, and stomach and can cause or exacerbate ulcers.
Not sure about in capsules tho?0 -
To be honest, its probably the cod liver oil thats helping your cat rather than the garlic
My dogs get a squirt of pure salmon oil (Kronch danish salmon oil - direct or some sellers on ebay) on their food every day. Ralph had skin allergies and Diggs came to us with bald patches. Both have very thick coats now - I wouldnt say they are completely cured of the allergies. Diggs still gets an occasional exzema in one ear (??) and Ralph still gets his dry eye on occasions - but its all manageable. Whereas before we were at our wits end with them both scratching and itching.
They also have Royal Canin skin support food - mixed with something tasty as they have got a bit bored with it now0 -
I just took basic insurance for my 5 month springer with petplan... £17.48 per month I think thats expensive but my vet only deal with petplan direct and I cant afford massive vet fees.
If that's the Value one then it's not lifetime, just 12m after first diagnosis.
Also the direct dealing thing isn't usually a problem. Halifax, for example, have always paid us within 3 weeks (usually 2), well before it would need paying if on a credit card. They will also deal direct, although that's obviously at the discretion of the vet/specialist - we've only used that once for a major op.
From what I remember from when I looked at insurance, they were in no way unusual.0 -

That really surprises me as Im with Halifax now with one of mine and he is a pedigree dog and I think its about £14 a month for the best policy. May be its because your dog is so young, they reckon more likely to claim in first year.
Go back and enter in his age as over 1 and see what the amount is then - Im curious now0 -

Does anyone have any experience of Animal Friends insurance? Their Gold cover gives from £2000-£6000 (depending on which level you choose) cover per condition per year, only £49 excess. Appears to be genuine for life cover.
What happens if you take out life cover with one company and then your pet has an on going condition and the insurance company go bust, no other company will take you on, or is there some sort of compensation scheme?0
