I've been following this post for a while now and think it's a great idea. I'm going to join you all if that's ok. I want to get £1000 to pay off my overdraft. I'm going to put it in a savings account in the meantime as it's safer there. If I put into my overdrawn account I will no doubt spend it and waste my good efforts:o I use this account for my monthly food shopping and normal spends. My salary goes into a different current account.
Today I have transferred £5.77 from my non overdrawn current account into my nice new savings account. Added to the £1 I already had in there I have now got £6.77 towards my goal:T My current account now has £0 in it but it's payday tomorrow:D
Hi, welcome! I have recently paid off my Abbey overdraft and found that the best way was to save up £50 and then go into branch and ask them to lower the overdraft limit by £50. It keeps the bank happy bexause they can see you lowering your overdraft, so they don't bug you, as your overdraft lowers you pay less in interest and also then you know that you really can't spend it - if I had it available in another account I know I might be tempted. These days I am paying things off as soon as I get the money, before I can change my mind!0 -
Another £1.08 for me today, i wish i was lowering my amount by more but we have a few birthdays this week and my mortgage doesnt go out till the 7th and i like to know i have enough for this without using my overdraft. Bowski_1011 - big congratulations. It's a great feeling isn't it.
I'm still amazed at how much difference saving small amounts each day makes and it doesn't matter how small the amount is - it all adds up.:DProud To Be Dealing With My Debts - DFW Nerd 323

This is such an excellent (and simple) idea (why didn't I think of it?). I am going to join in, if I may, and do this. I used to 'save' bits and pieces of change and think I would pay extra to my bills, but always seemed to 'need' that change before anything got paid, I never took the mental step to paying on line. So, I am going to tackle my lowest debt that still carries interest - it may not be logical but I need the mental gratification of thinking this is an achievable target - to see it come down and go! So it's my Waitrose card, it seemed such a good idea one Christmas when we were struggling to take on a card and buy all the things we needed for Christmas....... and what a duff idea that turned out to be! But I am better now, so pay pay pay. The amount left on it is £280, and I usually pay £20 a month to it. So I have set it up online and I'm going to tackle it a day at a time as well. Thank you for such a good idea, it's great to have an incentive.
