my monkey looks horrid! he looks like something outta shrek but deformed
i don't have a clue how to sew on the arms and the tail, and they've come out looking really crap! so i've given up
can someone maybe explain how they did there arms and tail??
It took my a long time to ge the arms on right. Here's how I sew the whole thing:- Stuff the body, sew up the crutch.
- Put on the tail, in the middle line of the heel. Turn the edges inside so you ahve no rough edges.
- Put on the ears to be your starting point for the face. About 2 - 3.5cm from the top, make sure they're even though, it's so easy to put them on too far forward or too far round the back.
- Put on the mouth. This is the only part where I leave the rough edge on the outside. Stitch closely together otherwise you'll see the stitching and it could come apart.
- Now, decide on where to put the arms and roll inwards the edges. Place one on, starting to sew at the bottom and do rough stitching all the way round to secure it. Ensure you're happy with it and put a second layer of stitches on. Ensure the distances between ear, mouth and arm are in proportion.
- Eyes I do last as they seem to frame the face.

Sharon_1970 - Its fantastic! You have inspired me to make my own!
Are these possible to make easily without a sewing machine? I am guessing they would take more time, I could always ask the mil if I could borrow her machineDebt free wannabe

Fancy taking a couple of orders? They are gorgeous

Happy to, can send you photos of current ones too. PM me if interested.
Good luck to those that are starting to make them, persevere because it takes a while to get them looking neat. There is a big difference in sock quality too (my favourites are Clarks). Isn't it sad when you're an expert in sock stretch and crutch stuffing and sewing?!!!0 -
Thank you for the elephant pattern Pinkemsy.

Oh help me... The local Littlewoods clearance shop has 3 pairs of socks for £1 and today it was VAT free so cost 82p... I'm going to be starting my first sock monkey tonight...A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Good luck Krystal.............having looked at the instructions and knowing me and needlework I daren't even think about it (though it would be perfect for baby grandson)...........plus if I start anything else OH might leave home
His facial expression changes somewhat when I get doorhangers/empty jars, labels, bog roll middles, not to mention pickled bums. !!!!!
Maybe I'll see if my friend can make one as she convaleses from her operation...........(she'll thank me for that.................:rotfl: )Mary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

Here he is... My first monkey!
I'm particularly pleased with him and would love to keep him... Sadly, halfway through production DD started calling him 'my monkey' Oh well... 2 other pairs left!
He really wasn't as difficult to make as I thought, although he has room for improvement... His tail is a little crinkled at the base (and the end is the shape of a dogs wotsit...) And I think I should of done his arms the other way... But hey, it's an achievment!A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.
