Sock monkeys anonymous! Where do I join?!
My middle sister has got her socks and stuffing and can't wait to get started, and now my youngest sister wants to join in too - although she wants me to make her one in the meantime. Hmmmmmmm, this baby is already four days overdue, so I don't think I'm going to have time to do all the ones I want to!

thanks sammyjane - i am rubbish at sewing so just bodged it - i have no idea what a backstitch is lol took me a bit longer as i don't have a sewing machine but wasn't that difficult, the arms were a bit fiddly as they were so skinny. the most difficult bit was stuffing him so he wasn't lumpy. i used boys socks size 9-12 so he's a little one as this was the socks my son wanted to use. I have really cute girls socks to make one for my daughter tomorrow. good luck if you decide to make one and i would love to see your pics

not sure if the photo will work as i'm not sure how to add them but this is my first sock monkey that i made tonight. he needs eyes and his arms are very skinny which also makes his tail a bit thick but overall i'm quite chuffed athow he's turned out. i stitched him all by hand too

this is lovely, gives me hope for my first one too :)
I'd really like to make 6 or 8, but it all depends on if i manage to make the first one!

Well they cant look as bad as i first thought as everyone who worked the day service and seen them this morning loved them - trying to get photo of ds onto computer to show you all - dd's may be difficult to get hold of she had it first thing once i got home and hasnt let got of it since but its arm needs a bit of a repair where i'd stitched to close to the edge - may not be able to catch this one til next week when im not on nights! if he survies that long - ds hasnt seen his yet got to get him from school soon - he'll prob have a strop as he wanted one with kittens on it but i'd left those socks at home last night so nipped to tesco at stupid o'clock last night to get some socks to play around with - hopefully can get some more done tonight if were not busy still got almost a full pillow of stuffing and 6 pairs of socks to go! Is there a sock monkeys anonymous ive only done two attempt and already addicted! :rotfl:

I use quite alot of stuffing in mine as I like them to be fairly firm. I buy it from a craft shop 450g for £2.10 and it is lovely and soft. It says on the label that it conforms to BS5852 and is 100% polyester. I can generally get 2 big monkeys out of one bag with alittle left over. I prefer to do the hands and feet and ears by hand as I am more in control of the shape that they are then!!!

    Here's a few more.

thanks emily. i am half way through my second one today - its for my daughter and so far i'm a lot happier with it. i have cut it all out and sewn round all the bits all i have to do now is stuff her and sew on the arms ears mouth and tail oh n the eyes. My son loved his but demanded when he got up and saw him at 6am that we HAD to go to the sewing shop to get buttons for his eyes, the lady in the sewing shop asked me for the pattern as she had never seen one before and thought it was an excellent idea. we were there far ages with my son 'trying on' the different buttons to see which he liked the best for martins eyes. lol glad the lady in the shop had patience and wasn't very busy bless he's only 3

Well done to all the first timers.they're all fab

I've not been on for a while been too busy making monkeys for orders. lost count how many i've done. but the recent ones are all dressed. some have mobile phones, some with i-pods. and some with ear muffs ..others have skirts, jackets hat & scarves etc.
Oh and i've even done some with lip piercings for some college kids Lol.

So once you've mastered the art of the sewing get crafty with the clothes.

can't post pics at the mo as my son has borrowed my camera and he's gone to australia. will try and do them on my fone tomorrow
