Stardrops42 - how did you make your little hats and scarf and t shirt?
Hi Craftlady
The socks came in a pack of 3 so I used 2 pair for monkeys and 1 pair for hats and scarves(ok I've only made 1 monkey from each pack so far but I have good intentions of making the other 1:D )
The pink cow hat and the green tassly hat were made by cutting a piece from the ankle part of the sock so that you basically have a tube. For the pink hat I stiched 1 end closed and added tassles to each corner and just popped it on monkeys head:D for the green one I left both ends open but did a runnning stich across it, about half way up the hat, pulled to gather it and stitched to secure, then cut the top into strips which curled up all by themselves which I thought looked really cute.
The scarves are the ribbing from the top of the sock (no sewing required)
The red beany hat was made by sewing the toe part of the sock and the ribbing part of the sock together and voila! instant little beany hat! scarve was a strip cut from the same sock(pair of bed socks never worn) The t shirt was simply 2 t shapes cut from an old white t shirt and sewn together leaving holes for head and arms, the front was then stamped using my craft stamps and inks.
Sorry if I haven't explained that very cleary but I pretty useless at explaining things I really prefer to just show someone:rotfl: anyway hope it helpsFeb GC £80 per week (Well I'm gunna try:whistle:)

Not checked in for a few days, but fab monkeys peeps!
I finished two more, a pink and white stripey one and yellow and white stripey one - from a pack of 3 from Primark for £1.50. My niece seems really happy with the pink one, and the yellow one is for my newborn if he ever arrives (now 1 day overdue).
Anyway, not going out tonight and this baby will probably not be here this week, so going to make a couple more. Got a couple of girly socks for female friends and some brilliant black pirate motif socks for boys - a 3 pack was £1 in Primark.
Oh and after my sister saw the one I made my niece she wants to make some too, so hopefully I might get her to join us on here.0 -

miaoww - the ones I have made have been 4-7 adult, but others have used smaller ones, although they might be more fiddly for a first attempt.
The best ones are where the sock has as much fabric on the ankle side of the heel as on the toe side if you see what I mean - shorter trainer socks won't work and knee-high ones would be too long.
Hope that helps.Property buying/selling timeline - currently into week 21

Here are my latest two. The one on the left is for a friend for Christmas (I'm going to cellophane him with a little gift of smellies & chocolates in a mug) and the one on the right is for my new baby boy - when he decides to get a move on and be born that is!
I also did an identical one to the yellow/white stripey one in pink at the same time, which my niece has now, and there's a green one still in the making.Property buying/selling timeline - currently into week 21

hiya ladies,
this is my first post. I have loved reading this thread and seeing all your lovely sock monkeys.
i am planning on making some for my son and daughter. as i don't have a craft shop here (the nearest is 50miles away) would the stuffing from a cheap pillow be ok to use? my children are still quite young so i can see these monkeys needing to be washed.
if they turn out ok (i'm not that great at sewing) i was thinking about making some to sell to raise funds for our toddlers group is it ok to sell these (i noticed a reply stating that they needed to be ce marked n ok'd by the local council or something)
can't wait to get started ..... all of yours look fab
