I love the brown spotty one Shelley!! They are all fantastic but she is defo my fav!
I think I need to get some more colours of cotton for the eyes too so I can make them stand out more on the darker socks!
It's all practice practice practice isn't it to find out what works best but I'm definately getting there. x0 -
Hi everyone, I am loving everyone monkeys. My partner got a sock monkey kit from john Lewis last week and since then we have become addicts!
I have been looking through this thread at all your wonderful pictures but there is far too much to read (lol) so was just wondering how you all sew the line on your nose?
It looks like some of you use lots of stitches and some look like they are 2 big stitches going from end to middle?
Thank you x0 -
Just wanted to say I showed this thread to my daughter (15) and she fell in with the monkeys. She is now on her second one - all hand sewn!! They are not perfect, but are even more beautiful because of their imperfection if you get me!!0

I do a continous thread and knot both ends and then secure it in place with small stitches right across it. Hope that makes sense
I am starting to panic now I have a stall in local shopping event Sat and I don't think I've made enough!! So I am not doing any housework until tomorrow and I am going to crack on with sewing!Little Miss Chatterbox

Best get stitching then Shelley!!!
Think I made a boo boo!! Bought a load of socks over the weekend and I like to embroider my eyes on, anyway, not thinking, I bought a few pairs that are mainly black or have black bits on them so the black eyes won't work!!! Doh!! Gonna have to buy some felt and try something different!0 -
Well I have had quite a productive day but I also had to make a special sock cow for my friend's daughter. She collects my monkeys and has been nagging me for a cow
Poor little doll is only 4 and she has had cancer twice - she had another scare over the weekend but thankfully all is good the dreaded c has not returned. I thought it would brighten up her day after the week they've all had. This is Clarabel:

Clarabel is gorgeous Shelley! Your friends little girl will love her!
Such a shame for her - she must be a tough little cookie to have been through so much at such at a young age!
The monkey I'm working on at the minute is one of the mainly black socks. She's all put together and is looking lovely! I had to do the sock upside down and stuff her through her head but to be honest, I think I quite prefer the style of her so I might start doing them like this. Anyway, not sure what to do with the eyes. Maybe felt eyes (white and black) of a felt patch with eyes stitched on, or cream embroidered eyes??? Hmmmmm decisions decisions!! Here she is so far anyway!0 -
Shelley, Where do you buy your felt from? I've looked in the local craft shops but its quite expensive! I'm thinking the tinternet may be a lot cheaper???0

Your monkey is lush the two white spots look like little eyes
I'm really lucky there is a craft shop less than a mile from home and I buy my felt there its excellent quality wool felt expensive but I love it. I use it on my owl cushions too. I recently had to buy some acrylic felt from Dunelm Mill but its just not the same quality.Little Miss Chatterbox
