I was thinking of using the felt Shelly but in an M shape so it is different from yours.
I have been working on my 4th monkey with cow socks - well he turned into a cow. I gave him brown embroidered eyes first but didn't like them so I cut them off and then gave him button eyes. The felt option would cure this as the black embroidered eyes would always stand out then.
Well, here he is. Meet Morris the Moo Cow. (still debating whether to give him horns???)0 -

Hi, Here's 'Sherbet' who I made for my neice for Easter. She is a teenager so I decided to give her a bit of bling too!!
Hope you like her!0 -
Hi,
I have a question for the regular sock monkey makers please!
Do any of you find that your machine struggles to stitch certain branded socks?
I bought a stash of socks from New look and everytime I try to stitch them there are loops on the underside of the fabric. I have tried and tried to adjust the tension but it doesn't seem to make any difference! They are lovely socks too but it just isn't happening at the minute!
Your thoughts would be grately appreciated.

I've not had any problems with different makes of socks, apart from the fluffy ones which sometimes get a bit stuck under the foot.0

I think it was a problem with my machine!! I took it back and swapped for another one (same model) and it seems fine now!!
How do you all stitch your limbs on? it takes me forever to do them (took me 3 hours to stuff 2 and stitch 1 together last night!) and I use ladder stitch.
Also, I leave an opening between the legs for stuffing and then stitch this up but I am thinking of maybe doing the socks the other way round and then using straight stitch to seal the gap and round the head off - maybe a bit quicker I'm thinking! Although, I do like the block of colour from the toe on the top of my heads!;)
Here is Major Monkey and I have done another cow and I'm onto a zebra pair now!!! (hence why I'm trying to think of quicker ways to stitch together! )

Wow they'll be taking over the house soon!
It does take a while to stuff them properly, but then you get a much better finish (not lumpy, bumpy) I would try stitching the other way around and see how you get on, although personally I prefer between the legs as it's less noticable.0 -
