fizzy .. you can either use the toe or the heel. i sew the bottom row using a running stitch. i sew 3 rows to strengthen it. then work my way round the top. and stuff very firmly before finishing off the opening. then i go back and stitch again to make sure the mouth is firmly secured which is a must to stuff firm ..

Thankyou Chatty. I'm happy with the mouth shape it's the stitching on it to make the lips that I'm not happy with.
  • Nice to see you are all busy. I haven't been on for about a week trying to get my orders finished, have got the last couple to do and then have a rest LOL!!

I have got into making these now but have a quick question I'm hoping someone can answer. I made one tonight using socks with little dogs on but they are upside down. Still cute no matter what. Is the a way around this?

    TIA for any replies.

  • Little tip, if they are for adults, just use craft glue to stick on the embroidery thread to make the mouth instead of stitching. Quicker, looks neat and tidy still. I've done this for all mine and its glued on firmly.

You turn the sock the other way up and make the legs out of the foot part and the body out of the leg part. You can either gather up the top and stitch firmly or lay the toe of another sock on it and cut around it for the shape. I usually undo the cuff part of the sock so it is single and cut on that but I know others cut the cuff off completely and shape the top of the head on the actual sock material. Stitch around the shape of the head and stuff as normal.
  • this is one that is cut up the other way to get the owls the correct way up
