Hi everyone,
Pennib....your monkeys are so lovely, you use the colours so well.
Having a go at my first monkey, can someone tell me how to do the eyes, got some buttons so no problem with that, but what if I use safety eyes how do you get them in and the back fasten on when the stuffing is already inside (hope you know what I mean). Or has anyone any other ideas if the monkey was being given to a very young child.
Thanks Sheila :j0 -
I tend to put on safety eyes before I stuff.. Just whatever you do, dont cut a little hole because it will end up laddering the socks (I know, from experience lol). I use my pin and 'loosen' a hole (Without breaking any of the sock fibres) for the eyes then when the hole is big enough pop it on
HTH xxSo much for 'Money Saving'0 -
For small children, I use felt eyes - just draw round a button the size you want your eye to be & stitch all the way round! You can also use a smaller circle or embroidery thread for detail. Most fabric places do small squares of felt for less than £1, which make loads of eyes and you can use it to do some interesting colour combinations too! Some of my monkeys are on my homepage including the ones with felt eyes if you want a look to see what I mean.
Loving all the monkeys on here, they have so much character and I always love how people can take the same socks but the monkeys they make are so totally different!0 -
Babyfreckles.........thanks for that tip will give it a try with some safety eyes I've bought this morning.
Furrychimp.............like the idea of the felt eyes they look good, you soft toys are amazing, have saved your site to look some more later
Thanks Sheila0 -
Hi all loving the new monkeys on here :j
I am feeling slightly peeved to be honest, I was contacted on facebook by a female who I don't know but happens to live in the same town as me asking me if I would share my orders with her!!!! I couldn't believe the cheek of it and when I saw her monkeys I can honestly say my 4 yr old could have done a better job they are the worst I have ever seenWell she has now started naming her monkeys the same as mine, using the exact same socks etc and I am a tad annoyed
I know we all use the same socks at times but I can honestly say we all make them differently on here but she even tried to do the eyes exactly the same!!!! but also the fact she contacted me asking me to give my orders to her is quite blatant don't you think??Little Miss Chatterbox

i am not happy with the jackets though. i amended a pattern for a santa doll but sock monkeys dont have shoulders so i think i will amend it again for the next batch!

OMG Shelley - thats really bad!!! i would be fuming!! I have seen some that look really bad on fb and cant believe people buy them (and not mine lol) but I would be fuming if someone did that to me. can you block her so she cant see them? your monkeys are brilliant and different, not seen any others like them so people should know yours from some shabby copy!!!!0
