this is my first sock monkey not anywere near as good as any of yours but made them for my children for christmas just waiting for my mum to knit a hat a scarf for it, as I can't knit to save my life!
Honest opinions and any advice is welcome:jmember of the thrifty gifty 2011 :j0 -
Mummyslittleboy your monkey is fabulous I can't believe it's your first attempt :T. I can't knit to save my life either hence why my monkeys never have hats and scarves lol!
I thought I was being a bit sensitive but my friends are outraged by it!! I can't believe someone could be so cheeky. I have banned her from my page now but I don't know if that means she can still view it or not.Little Miss Chatterbox

Thanks for your lovely comment Shelley I hadn't even done any sewing since I left school
I don't know why I hadn't as I have loved doing it but I do seem to struggle with the mouth as can never seem to get it quite in the middle without doing it 2-3 times:mad:
If you have added the persons name to the block list in your account settings she will not be able to view any of your facebook or any posts you make anywere else on facebook;):jmember of the thrifty gifty 2011 :j0 -
Shelley - pm'd you. but definatly block them if you can!
mummyslittleboy - nothing wrong with him, he looks very lovable. my kids loved my first one, Fred. I have not even put a photo up as he was so bad!!! But he currently lives in my daughters room protecting her from monsters!! :P My kids love everything I make. When I first started crocheting and made the oddest things they wanted them and they still have them. Sock monkeys are the only toys that go to bed EVERY night! The kids love them. I am sure yours will too.
My mate sent me a picture earlier of the first sergeant sock monkey i made - her son was alseep hugging him. so sweet.0 -
Brilliant advice thank Mummyslittleboy I will do that straight away now.
Sock monkeys are so addictive I really enjoy making them too and find it really theraputic.
I use the toe as the mouth and always found this the most difficult bit to sew but I pin it into position before I start sewing it on and find that really helps.Little Miss Chatterbox

Thanks for that I might try that on my godsons if you dont mind the toe seems a bit bigger aswell so might be better.:jmember of the thrifty gifty 2011 :j0 -
I don't mind at all and I find the toe a better shape it gives a rounder fatter mouth. Most people use the heel and get the same effect but I just prefer to use the toe. It's taken me the best part of 2 yrs on and off getting frustrated cos I couldn't get them like I wanted. I had friends asking me to make them and I wouldn't cos I didn't think they were good enough! It is only now I've had the confidence to start making them for people.
We had mayhem in our house tonight I made a new monkey called Olly who loves rugby, chocolate orange and Harry Hill ( my son's idea lol). Well my two sons were both crying cos they both wanted him and neither would give him up. He was an order for someone else but I had to relent cos I couldn't face seeing them so upset. Here he is:
