This is the instructions I used (which were kindly posted earlier in this thread): http://www.web-goddess.org/writing/tutorial/Image0.html

Here's my two latest sock monkeys:

"Corporal Kees" (I managed to get a nice big mouth part just using the heel and stuffing it right out)

And "Candy" (I'm starting to get the hang of rounded ears now but think I'd prefer them sewed on closer if that makes sense)!

I'm off to get some more camo socks this afternoon as I like making the soldier sock monkeys!

Thanks LJM. I have been making small ones as they only take 1 evening rather than 2 for the large ones to make but that will all change now, i have a sewing machine! yay!!! :T So can go back to making bigger ones!

Kisto - they are really good. I am loving the army theme! Need to buy more socks me thinks!! :p
  • Excellent thank you, cant wait to have a go!!

Beware they get addictive! They are quite simple to do but can be fiddly (especially if you use a smaller sock). You'll find yourself loitering around the sock aisle in shops now too! :D:D:D

I've only made 5 so far but I am thinking of selling some at an Easter fair. From my investigations, what people charge varies - anywhere from £5 - £20+. I'd probably charge around the £10 mark but I need to work out my costs first.

I sell mine for £10, they are the larger adult socks and also include a hat with a personalised embroidered message on it. I have found I am selling quite a few of them (I sell on Ebay and Misi) and think the price is just about right. I sell the smaller ones for about £6. They are not really cost effective if you are wanting to make a living out of it. I worked out the costs on the large ones and with selling fees they cost about £3 to make plus 3 hours work plus the embroidery, so it is around £2 per hour wages, but it does help.

Thanks for that info, very much appreciated. Pleased it's going well for you too :T

I work full time so wouldn't be making a living out of them anyway! I really enjoy making them ...so wouldn't be worried about making mega bucks! I'd like to cover my costs, plus a wee bit extra to treat myself (probably to more socks :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:)

I also doubt I'll list them on ebay/folksy/etsy/misi etc - I'll just sell to friends/family and at school easter/xmas fairs.
