Hi, Just popping in to say that while bloghopping today I found a shop selling Sock Monkey wrapping paper!

Its quite dear at £1.35 a sheet and postage is £3.95!! But there are lots of other fun things you might be interested in there too.

    This is the paper:

The shop is from the designer Petra Boase, who some people may remember was one of the designers on 'Change That' years ago.

Sorry, not a very mse post :o, I'll get my coat.....

It looks like Sunsetgirl uses the toe for her mouth. There are two methods to cut the second sock. One creates a long tail, thin arms and uses the toe for the mouth and the second method produces a shorter tail, arms the same width as the legs and uses the heel for the mouth. I use the second method as I prefer fatter arms.

My first three monkeys are shown here. On the strength of these three I already have orders coming in!

I prefer the second method too! I'm 3/4 way through my 4th monkey and practice definitely does make perfect (...well not quite) as he is my best yet. I've managed to do round ears this time (although one is very slightly bigger than the other...but it's all character huh)?!

stitching witch - Love your monkeys. Stripey socks really do make for great sock monkeys! The Orange, blue, red and white stripe one is my favourite! :T
:T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j

Also I have a question for all the sock monkey pros on here!!! I was browsing google to investigate the world of sock monkeys and came across this site. The sock monkeys on there (which are all fab may I add) have really big mouths? How? I use the whole heel of the sock, stuffed right out and the mouths would never be that big? Is it the type of sock used? Or are the mouths made in a different way?

The heel is better to use than the toe because you don't have any seams etc. and is usually more rounded.
It is the way Sunset girl has taken the photos that make the mouths look that large. I use the heels on my monkeys and my photos will look like that too, if they are taken at a certain angle.

Would you mind pointing me in the direction for patterns for both ways of doing sock monkeys. I'm really keen to make my first one :)

What's the best place for cheap socks & stuffing?

    Many thanks

  • It depends if you are selling your monkeys or not as they need to be from a reliable source that has a fire safety regulation. Presumably as they are pillows they should have a label on them you can check
