Thats brilliant cydney! well done doing it by hand!!I am determined to lose weight!:kisses3:
Weight loss so far 2 stones 6lbs!! :j:j0 -
Jetty, I know the sewing machine thing has been a little difficult but don't stop doing your monkey, I have made most of mine by hand as I don't have a machine of my own and they have been fine! You have to do a lot of the sewing together by hand anyway and it makes it a much more sociable and portable activity doing it by hand, I used to sit watching the telly making mine!
I did make one for myself in the end but ended up giving it to my grandad as he really liked it so that is back to the drawing board! Anyone know where I can get some nice green socks? Not illuminous ones and not primark, I have given up going there for my 101 list!God is good, all the time

i got some socks in the matalan sale lol, but they didn't have much colour!
I was going to do one by hand but i am so impatient and can't do two things at once (tv and sew lol) i just thought a machine would be easier as i have to make about 10 by xmas! It's all on th back burner right now tho, i have an exam on the 21st and i've done no revising at allMan who run into airport turn-styles is going to Bangkok

Jetty - have been thinking you said that when you took shuttle out two bits fell out . the first one is the one we know holds it all in place, with the arms. now the second one could be the problem.
When you lower the needle it catches on a strange looking thing that hooks the cotton takes its round from left to right and collects the shuttle cotton.
have another go thread machine and lower needle with case open so you can see what is happening, let me know, pm if you want so we don't keep posting on the thread but i am sure we can sort it, i just don't want you putting machine away and giving up, its got to be some think so easy0 -
Hi, Iv been lurking for the past couple of days and stumbled accross this trhread. Id love to try this is. Is there a sewing machine anyone can recommend that is fairly cheap and simple to use? Iv been meaning to get one- just to sew hems and do basic things, which is why I dont want to invest to much money.
I adore stardrops efforts. I really love the blue and white monkey with the strawberrys and the peachy coloured stripey one with the green hat and scarf- where did you get these socks from if you dont mind me asking? Iv looked in peacocks and dotty ps cant find anywhere near as nice ones as these though. Also I dont live near a hobbycraft could anyone recommend a good seller of toy stuffing on the internet- stuffing that dosnt go lumpy and is good quality?
Thanks in advance you have all done so well I love seeing your pics...maby I will have my own once Iv found some socks I like! x0 -

Dunelm sell two little machines that would do to make sock monkeys. they are £20 or £13. one runs off AA batteries the other is either batteries or mains! they arent any good for anything bigger / heavier than a cushion cover. but would be ideal for monkeys! they do slightly better machines for £45 too!!0 -
Thanks for the info kacy, do you have one/use one yourself? What sort of stitch works best on sock monkeys?0

I work in Dunelm (thats how i know )
I have tried them and to be honest i prefer the £20 machine. it just does basic stitches.
I always do runing stitches on mine (i say always i've only made two!)
It depends what sort of thing you want a machine for. the best bet is to go in either first thing or one evening (when they are usually quiet) and ask for a demo. they should be happy to help and advise you!0 -
Thanks from me too Kacy, I might try one of those instead of DD2's machine.
I posted my pics of Oswald the sock monkey on Facebook and now half the family wants one including DD2!!! Have raided our local newsagents today (it's one of those old fashioned, 'I didn't come in here to buy anything but left £20 lighter', places) and came away with lots of little bits for my pots of xmas love and some really funky bed socks which will make fabulous sock monkeys. OH groaned very loudly when she saw them and said something along the lines of 'is this ever going to end'!:rotfl:
I'm so looking forward to christmas :j
