  • don't know if this is any help to all you monkey makers (all amazing monkeys on here btw, especially loving all Angelkay's & Stardrops' creations!), but Primark have kids hair bobbles a wee bit like the ones Angelkay uses for skirts....

there's pinks & blues in the pack for around £1.50 - £2 for 4, and they have pearl & bead bracelets in pinks & cream that would make necklaces for about £1 for a pack...

...I'm becoming addicted to looking at the lovely monkeys, have to check daily who has a new one!!

Angelkay - how do you do the mouth? And are the nostrils stictched using embroidery thread? Your mouths just look soooo much neater than mine!

i'm not sure if i can explain it very well. i use embroidery thread ad start from the right hand side of the snout where i want the mouth to start then thread it thru the snout and out the other side then pull the thread over the front of the snout back to where you started, from there i go back up inside the snout to do the nostrils where i normally do 3 stitches for each then go back inside the snout to where i started and tie it off.

    hope that makes sense?

Ive loved seeing all of your sock monkeys!

Have you got any ideas for stuffing other than wadding? I dont really want to buy anything and i havent got any old tights!!

I thought maybe rice or shredded paper?

i think that paper would go all funny if the monkey got wet ot too sure on the rice but it would have to be stitches pretty well to take the weight. i use asda smart price pillows which can be washed and tumble dried, they are less than £3 for 2 pillows and fill loads of monkeys, saying that i have yet to get 2 packs of pillows from asda where the filling is the same. ths first pack the filling was harder and more wirey, the second was much softer and the best i have used so far the third and 4th were even softer still and the 5th was just like cotton wool. the softer the filling the more i seemed to use so where the 1st pack did 15 monkeys the 5th pack only did 8!!

thanks very much i love making monkeys and am a member of another forum ad have persuaded other members there to make monkeys and have been responsible for their addictions too lol!

i have made mine in batches which i find so much easier ( i out sew with the machine then do all the hand sewing of the arms and ears, then i go and stuff them all and finally sew them together) and my son loves coming down i the morning to see a new monkey ad always tells me "thats another beautifull one mam but i still only love my martin" i cringe when we go out as martin comes everywhere with us and although i was very proud of him when i first made him (he was the first one i made) they have definately got better.

i did see the hair bands in primark when i was in a couple weeks ago but only noticed them on my way out and decided that i didn't want to wait in the queue for 20 mins again. We have a shop here called The Factory Shop who have those stands filled with haor accessories and they have cards of 'skirts' and hair bands with flowers and hearts etc on all for £1 and there was 8 skirts i think on the card. they also had 10 pairs of girls socks for £2.99 but i think i would be looking at being divorced if i bought any more socks lol

  • Ooooh my monkey is nearly ready to be photographed- he is a bit crap though so please be gentle with me haha. I plan to make a few more so hopefully they will get better.

Photos to follow once I've done his eyes
  • I have been readying this thread with great interest. I have now enlisted my MIL to help me make one for my OH for Valentines day. I am going to use knee length socks as I love the long arms and legs, they look so cute! My first task is to pop to town this afternoon to buy a pair of socks, I wonder if I will find some nive patterned ones.
