  • I want to have a go at making a sailor monkey for a friend who used to be in the navy. I'm thinking navy socks for the body, legs, arms and ears, and white socks for nose, white gloves and white neckerchief, and some black boots. Some small buttons/ sequins down the front as jacket buttons and perhaps some embroidered squiggle on arms for rank. Any ideas what to do for a hat? Any other suggestions? Maybe a lifejacket?

feefeedee i love your monkey, where did you get the wand?

further to my earlier post where I said I got the wand from Poundland, I'm just home from Tescos where I got a pack of 4 wands for a pound....they're a wee bit smaller than the one I had pictured but probably thats better anyway! Also, I got a pack of 4 teeny tiaras for a pound too, these fit the monkey fine.

These were in the party section, along with the items you'd buy to put in girls party bags, hope this helps some-one!

Whitevanwoman......what a lovely idea.....I think the toe of a white sock with the edge turned up to make the brim, with a navy or gold anchor shaped button would make a good hat.

I am happy to say that I have my 3rd monkey in production as we type. I am taking my time with this one and really concentrating on the small details. This one I think is going to be for me, unless I change my mind. I do not have the confidence to give it away as I do not like my work.

Don't be too hard on yourself ZLS1984, you've been having a difficult enough time if you're recovering from surgery and I'm sure you deserve a wee monkey friend to keep for yourself.
As for not liking your own work....for one thing I'm sure it's great, but a lot of this is about having fun, chatting and encouraging each other....which is all free, but also can I say my favourite monkeys are the slightly facially challenged ones (ugly, to you and me!) I love those ones with wee faces only a mammy could love! They make me laugh out loud when I see them....ones with one arm twice the size of the other, or ears like Dumbo.....they're the best.....bags and bags of character!
So get stuck in, have fun and I bet your new wee pal turns out great! Good luck!
