  • Hi,

Sorry if i've posted this in the wrong place or haven't done it right, but I just had a quick question to see if anyone could suggest the best way to go about it.

Basically I had my daughters feet measured in Clarkes and the girl said they were a 5F, I then took her back and got them measured again as the shoes didn't seem right on her and was told she was barely a 4F. I then was pressurised into buying her another new pair which cost me £28.50 with the cleaning stuff they suggested I buy for them. I decided then that the shoes I bought weren't suitable and thought I would be able to get a refund as I had the receipt they were unworn and it was within 28 days as stated at their tills. When I tried to get my money back the shop assistant was very rude and said that they had been worn outside (which they hadn't) and refused to refund my money, another shop assistant then put my cleaning product back on the shelf and when I told her that that was mine and I had the receipt to prove it she accused me of being a thief until her manager came back and said yes it was mine gave it back and asked me to leave the store or security would be called.

I was just wondering if anyone thinks that I should take this further or just leave it. I am a young mum with MS and £28.50 is a lot of money to me and was just trying to do the right thing for my 15 month old daughter.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, sorry if I sould like i've gone on it just really annoyed me today

    Thanks

You HAVE to complain. They measured your daughter wrongly which could have resulted in her having very sore feet if you hadn't noticed and then, instead of saying they would take back the shoes as it was their fault, they conned you into buying another pair. Correctly fitting shoes are extremely important for such young feet, especially as your daughter is still learning to walk properly at that age, it could really have set her back.

If it was me, if I did not get any joy out of them, I would go and complain again. If they still do not give you a refund on the original shoes I would then drift around the store telling people about the problem you have had. It takes a little nerve to do but you will either get your money back or get thrown out by security, in which case I would go saying to everyone on the way that they sold your daughter badly fitting shoes so they are throwing you out!

In all reality though a stiff letter to head office complaining about every part of your experience is probably the best way to go unless you have a hell of a lot of nerve. Normally the length of time you have had something like that would be relevant but the shoes were too big so there is no way your daughter would have been comfortable with wearing them any length of time.

Good luck with this - Clarks always say how well they train their fitters, lets see how well they back up this statement.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

I emailed them last night complaining about the wait i always have to endure if i order a spicy veggie deli sandwich. They've got back to me now asking me for my postal address. I'll tell you what i get when i get it.

also i emailed starbucks; they werent too helpful in reply.

    Chris
  • Starbucks sent me 2 coupons (each for a cup of free coffee) but the letter and email was so generic; "Sorry your experience wasn't as great as usual"...I'm sorry but !!!!!!? I was battered and bruised by this silly girl pushing me out th way wih her tray.

Just received £5 in vouchers from Muller (no fruit in 3 of the 6 pots of Strawberry Corner) and £5 from Danone (watery Activia).

Both genuine complaints by the way.

  • Flickering Ember you should definately threaten to take this further. If you have people who saw it happen and such. The photos to prove it. Just write back saying you're not happy after being assaulted by a member of staff with being fobbed off with a generic email. just put some little white lies of "seeking legal advice". Im willing to bet they would throw free stuff at you.

I complained to McDonalds a few months ago after receiving some appalling treatment by a manager and yet another lengthy wait for food. They sent me a £5 gift voucher. I have heard of people getting more than this, so you might get lucky.

I also complained to M&S earlier in the year after two members of staff started arguing and a big queue built up a the till. It was during my lunch hour and I was subsequently late back to work. I was sent a lovely letter and £15 in gift vouchers.

I once complained to Post Office Counters about my local Post Office that never ever opened on time - always about 20 mins late. It'd drive me nuts and I hated seeing little elderly ladies stood in the rain waiting for someone to turn up and open up. They replied, apologised and sent some first class stamps as compensation..... except they forgot to enclose them. :rotfl:

I complained about the mess in one of the stores and received 3 vouchers. The letter you describe sounds exactly like the one I received. I'm shocked by the fact that they try to fob you off with 2 vouchers after being assaulted by a staff member!

    Hi all

I just thought I would post my reply from starbucks as promissed.

This company must be the tightest company I have ever known. After posting my complaint here a few weeks ago I recieved a reply from them and they seemed very automated in their repsonse they have given me 3 vouchers to spend on drinks only to any value as a sorry and I feel angry as the amount I had spent with them was way over the value of these vouchers,
it just goes to show you that these comapnies don't really listen to your complaints just fob you off with vouchers and hope you dont complain again.
