I complimented McCain on their homefries as I have a very fussy DH who is not a lover of chips but when he tasted theirs in the deep fat fryer he loved them! McCain sent me moc's and I still sometimes receive offers from them. It is really worth writing to companies wether it's to complain or compliment, you never know what you might get back from them. I prefer to do written letters rather than emails as you get a better response.
Big thanks to all who contribute to the forums. Be lucky everyone and be safe!

i emailed McCain, to tell them we were trying to cut down on chips and were loving their wedges and they emailed me back to thank me and tell me there was a voucher in the post! lovely!
  • Thanks; I have emailed Starbucks. I have a reciept to prove purchase as well as a photo of the bruises, which automatically has the time and date printed on it. I'll keep you posted as and when I get a reply. I did complement them on the service I recived at the till and on their new dark cherry mochas. Although I actually was in there using a freebie coupon anyway...

I dont understand the motive behind contacting a company with compliments in the hope of getting something free. Is this not begging?

If I am happy with a product or service I am given or I pay for (like good service in a restaurant or a good haircut), I am more inclined to offer my appreciation TO THEM...I dont feel the need to contact them after to try scrounge money back from them!

There's no such thing as a freebie in the context of what this thread is trying to achieve...its either justified compensation for poor quality (which if genuine, should be nothing to really rejoice over - if a mistake has been made and its been rectified, then subject closed in my book), or its well-disguised begging.

I could go to the local supermarket in the morning and offer compliments to everyone that walks out, and perhaps someone would feel awkward enough to give me something out of their shopping in return...I'd essentially have a freebie....result??

I agree 100% with this. I think it's a shame that some of these post result in companies being swamped with people looking for samples/vouchers.

I always feedback to a company if I am not 100% happy with a product as I feel like this is what I should always expect and yes sometimes I have been surprised to receive things in the post but this does not make up for the product/service not being 100% in the first place.

As for complimenting a company, I have done this a few times if I have been very happy with them and now I probably won't do it again as the companies with just think I'm 'another one looking for a freebie'

I like a 'freebie' as much as the next person but I think this should be limited to genuine freebies and giveaways by companies expecting a lot of requests and trying to generate interest in their products by giving you a sample/freebie.
If you can't be nice then stay silent
