i think i might be missing something here - with the deals on monthly sim offers for £10 or £15, where you get 650 txts 350 mins for example, how does this compare

Yes you are missing something.
The pay monthly SIM's you mention are just that, ie you get a lot of minutes/texts for £15. But, you have to use them within one month. If you are a low user, £15 worth of pay as you go on the IKEA deal will allow you to make 166 minutes worth of calls, and of course you don't have to use them within one month. I don't use my mobile much and 166 minutes would last me more than a year, and so for me it is an ideal solution.0 -

Yes unlike a 30 day sim only contract. There is
No credit check.
No contract.
No monthly fee.
No minimum spend, you pay only what you use.
No notice required to terminate.
Also if you need to call 0845/0844/0870 numbers the rates are cheaper then contract phones.0 -
Oh ok, now I see what you mean about it being good if you're a low user. I wasn't being facetious btw, it was a genuine question! Its just that someone mentioned it being a good deal for kids and that threw me - it wouldn't be any good for my kids, they are better off on a monthly sim deal. (virgin 300 mins 300 txts for £10.)0

Can anyone advise how I might get a handset that is compatible with the sim card? I think my choices are to buy (1) one of the few available to buy from the family mobile website or (2) a T-mobile handset, or (3) buy one from elsewhere, go through the unlocking rigmarole and take pot luck whether it works or not.
I've got £20 off a Virgin handset but pointless buying one from them if the sim isn't going to work! I would be v grateful for any advice!
Thanks0 -
As far as i know, virgin handsets will take a t mobile sim card. It worked ok for me.0

Hi Zippy
Sure, 9p seems better than 12p per minute :-D
If you got a locked phone you just need to get it unlocked.
I'm sure 3 don't want to move your number. They are doing everything to hold on to their shrinking number of customers, but give it a try with their customer service. Just ask for a PAC code.0 -

If they sell a handset on their site you can use it.
If the FAMILY MOBILE is running on T-Mobile you can use any T-Mobile handset.
You can buy a unlocked handset from anywhere and it will work with any operator in Europe.0
