I've decided to say hi as I have recently braved posting after much lurking! I'm 40 something, married with a 20 yr old son and 17 yr old daughter. I work as a food technician in the local secondary school, so I pretty much old style at work as well as home! I try to cook from scratch as much as possible - like making bread, yoghurt etc. I think everyone is so friendly on here ar look forward to getting more tips in the future as well as trying to share a few. :j0

Hello, I don't know what to tell you about and me and mine. We currently live separately, I rent at the moment. I'm 50ish on paper but my brain disagrees. Our dreams are not complex - just to do things we have always wanted to do when we can.
We want to be mortgage free and other debt free as soon as practically possible and we see it as challenge to rise to and to make it easier we treat it as a big game.
We have our sights set on a small cottage with a small garden on the edge of a small village. If that doesn't come about due to not selling his place Plan B is a house with a large garden for veg and flowers and we can have more than one cat and dog (oh yes, furbabies). Plan B might happen later anyway with luck and planning ahead. After that who knows.
I've kept ducks, like to cook meals from scratch and have grown my own veg before. There's such a great team spirit here and while I'm learning a lot of new tricks and tips I think we will end up being able to contribute in turn.No longer half of Optimisticpair

Hi
I am a long time lurker working on my reluctance to post.
I'm a single woman with a not glamorous job ( customer services ) but it pays the bills.
What I want is simple : to do what is on my bucket list (aka the 12 things I want to do before I die ). To achieve that, I need time, focus and money.
I am a big fan of MSE... can't stop to recommend it to my friends ... I like to go through the forums: I find new ideas and new reasons to stick to my goals. Some of the postings did inspire me : who thought that a simple idea like menu planning could change my life ( better diet = losing weight = more money to spare = happier me :rotfl: )What is irony : be poor like Cresus or lucky like Job ?0 -
I am a mother to one, and I work fulltime. I am saving like mad for a house deposit because of something I did on my 25th birthday, which was bet my brothers I would own my own house outright before my 30th bday lol...
Wanted to give myself the extra motivation, and boy is it working...:o"Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without!!"Nov NSD: ?/30 Nov Make 10 Day ?/300Get Rid Of Debt: ?/2000 !! :mad:0 -
I've been lurking around the OS board for a while, and decided it was time to introduce myself and start contributing.
I live with my OH, two dogs, two cats and a fat, hairy, muddy horse (!) down in 'sunny' East Kent. We have a plan to move to a small-holding in Mid-Wales in a few years time (summer 2012, all being well) so I've started the transition to an OS-type life now so that it's less of a shock to the system.
I hope to start growing my own fruit & veg (as much as you can in a steep, terraced, patio garden) this winter, so I'll be heading over to the green-fingered board in a while.
My MIL has just given me a beautiful, old-fashioned singer sewing machine so the OH and I could be sporting some 'odd' looking items of clothing over the coming months.
When I'm not working hard as a programmer for a clinical research organistion, I spend my time taking part in Endurance (long distance!) riding, walking the dogs and generally living a very peaceful, simple life with my OH and our furries!
So, hello!0 -
Hello, and welcome! I'll add your post to the Getting to Know You thread where everyone introduces themselves

hello new folks and ex-lurkers:hello:
Lovely to *meet* you and hope you enjoy being part of OS as much as I do. I'm on here a lot at the mo as still on college holidays but once |I get back to work it's lovely to put lots of advice into practice - shopping with a LIST, menu planning, vinegar and Stardrops for a lot of cleaning etc. This is a hugely supportive place to be.

I've been lurking for a little while, but this is my first post on the forum, so I thought i'd introduce myself. I've just finished sixth form, starting uni in september, and going to have *deep breath* responsibilities, so I thought this would be a good place to start gathering some tips on how to live on a student budget. I'm renting a place with my boyfriend rather than living in Halls, the parents will be helping out with rent for a bit but I still need help!
I've always relied on my parents before, so this is going to be a big step forward for me. Wish me luck!
