Okay, I first joined this place in May 2005 when I was more than 30 grand in debt, and I was a regular OSer at the time. Then I left my husband, bought my own small place, and nipped on again with the intention of keeping on top of my finances. (Great way to clear your debt - leave the husband and sell the marital home.) Then I moved in a new bf who was an alcoholic and took a lot of my time and energy.
Now I'm single again and wanting to get back into OS, plus I've just worked out that I'm spending slightly more than I'm earning and need the motivation to help me cut back, with ideas and suggestions for feeding me when I'm single and taking full advantage of a small table-top freezer.
I've just remortgaged from an interest only to a repayment - interest only not the best thing, but it was all I could afford a year ago when I still had half an interest in an existing mortgage - and added a bit on to have a new kitchen, so I'll hopefully have a full sized larder fridge/freezer and a DISHWASHER. (I'm so excited about the possibility of a dishwasher.)
I hope you don't mind me coming back, but it's nice to see so many old and familiar "faces" still knocking around.spendy/she/her ***DEBT-FREE DATE: 11 NOVEMBER 2022!*** Highest debt: £35k (2006) MY WINS: £3,541 CASH; £149 Specsavers voucher; free eye test; goody bag from Scottish Book Trust; tickets to Grand Designs Live; 2-year access to Feel Amazing App (worth £100); Home Improvement & Renovation Show tickets; £50 to spend on chocolate; Harlem Globetrotters tickets; Jesus Christ Superstar tickets + 2 t-shirts; Guardians of the Galaxy goody bag; Birmingham City v Barnsley FC tickets; Marillion tickets; Dancing on Ice tickets; Barnsley FC v Millwall tickets0 -

I work full time as a Recetionist/PA for a small building company, have hardly any work to do so spend a large portion of the day on this site! it has saved my sanity as well as saving me money. LOL.
I am recently divorced and live with my Rottweiler dog called Denzil in my lovely brand new 2 bedroom house which I would love to belong to me and not partly to my bank.
Only been posting for last couple of weeks, was just a "looker" before but have recommended this site to all my friends as its just so brill!0 -
hello there, I 've been reading these forums for ages but only just plucked up the courage to join in, don't know why!!!
I work full time for a local council as a 'financial inclusion officer' its a money adviser with a difference. My role is part of a skills for life project which helps folk with literacy, numeracy and dyslexia problems. For my part I help with all aspects of money issues, debt, benefits, budgetting, money saving tips, job hunting etc etc etc. We try to go that bit further than CAB by looking into how the problems started and what happens when the problems are resolved or at least managed.
I'm not saying that I am an expert, far from it cos things change constantly but I try to help folk in any way that I can.
Anyway, thats the work stuff... apart from that I'm a mum of a brilliant 18 year old girl and I bought my first home with my lovely OH 6 months ago after my life took a complete 180 last year. Went from long-term single mum, carer of my mum, volunteer advice worker, council house renter & skint to full time job with council, partner, homeowner & in the space of 7 months!!! the turning point was deciding to give up my 10 year job in a sandwich/confectioners shop to care full timr for my mum and then stumbling across a training course for advice work. I've never looked back even though the money was very tight and times were tough. I look on it as a sideways step to go up,if you know what I mean?
Anyway, I hope I haven't bored you. I love the forums and the advice given by 'proper people'. I try and pass on the advice I read as often as I can and am always raving about MSE.
I used the templates for reclaming bank charges last year and they worked! I got £1000 back from RBS,( 4 years worth!) the same week we moved into our new house and am now claiming OH charges for him from Yorkshire Bank although they are waffling us a bit at the mo.
Right I'll leave you good folks alone for a bit but i will be back soon
Bye for nowdoing what I do best...trying!!-- lainey :j

Hello Everybody,
I have been posting on OS for a while now and have just got round to this thread now:
I am an almost 62 year-old, retiring (on 31st May) civil servant..on health grounds, commuting the almost 20 miles per day to Dublin has become more and more traumatic and I just lost the plot last year and have been on sick leave and anti-depressants ever since.
I have been married for almost 37 years and OH has been retired since Nov05
We have seven children between the ages of 36 and 26, four daughters and three sons, we also have four wonderful grandchildren, two boys 6 and 4 and two girls who are two (just four days between them).
We have only our youngest daughter and her 4year old living with us now, three live a few miles away, one is in Cork, one in UK and one in Netherlands.
I have always been a keen knitter, crocheter ( is that a valid word ??) and cook, in latter years I have become a keen gardener, although arthritis is not helping that along...OH is not keen but will do the work I can't do and we have been self-sufficient in salads and greens for weeks now.
