Hi! My DH told me about MSE a few weeks ago and have found it addictive (coincided with getting broadband so website can be on all the time:D ).
I am 28, married for 6 years and have a 3yo DD. I work 30 hrs per week as a midwife and am also doing a part time masters course.
Am using the OS tips to save for overpayments on the mortgage and avoid debts (DH spends without thinking! )
Trying to get best mate into MSE at the moment she thinks I am so sad for the excitement I have when reducing the supermarket bill.Monthly Grocery Challenge-April

'Ello you lot. As you can see my name is Mike, one of the few (maybe redundant) males on this thread. I'm 75 this year (free TV license :j), retired (wish I could work) looking after my arthritic but beautiful wife and 46 year old (refuses to leave the nest ) son.
I used to work in managent accounts at a firm that is currently in administration so any private pension rises are now frozen . Money is obviously a growing concern as nothing seems to go down these days.
MSE has been a great help so far, thank God! :beer:0 -
Hi everyone
I've only recently discovered MSE and I'm finding OS addictive.
I'm 41 and work full time (and then some) in the NHS. I'm married with a 20 year old SS who lives with us part time. My DH is a full time stay-at-home mature student with no income, however due to his former job we have no mortgage :j. He is also the most un-organised and messy person i've ever met, and refuses to do any housework apart from the occasional loading of the washing machine or dish washer and consequently our house is a tip except when i have a twice yearly blitz.
We cook most meals from scratch, don't have Sky, have one 2-week overseas holiday a year, drink 1-2 bottles of wine a week and only go out maybe once a month. I've recently done a SOA and most of our money seems to go on food and heating an old Victorian house - i'm trying to cut both down.
I could also win a medal for procrastination, so I'm hoping OS will motivate me to get off my a***.0 -
Hi! I registered ages ago - then got cold feet about posting and just lurked aound on this site for ages! I'm a head teacher, away from home usually for 11 hours each day M-F - and a total slob at weekends! OH (retired HT) tends to do all the cooking - well he'd eat at midnight if left to me and a fair bit of the housework. Lucky, aren't I? 37 years married means we've probably been OS for years - and trying hard to be even more so. I reckon I can retire in two more years (yes, I'm really looking forward to this!) and then we'll have to live even more economically, so I'll be looking for tips for ever!Resolution:
Think twice before spending anything!0 -
Hi there,
Like a lot of people I've lurked on the site for ages but have recently started to contribute a little bit. I'm 38, married with one little boy, and I suppose I have been OS for years without knowing it had a name 'til a friend recommended this site!
Me and my husband both work part time in the NHS, me as a librarian, him as a researcher, so that we both get to look after our 16 month old DS without having to use childcare. MSE has played a huge part in making it possible to drop one wage when DS was born, as we've tinkered with most areas of our finances as a result of advice gleaned from this site.
The OS board also helps me feel like we are not the freaks my family implies we are for bringing up DS the way we want to! (making things, baking our own bread, breast feeding, home cooked food for DS, going camping in the UK...etc). Long live the Waltons, I say! (although I doubt they ever went camping in Cornwall!)
good night, John Boy!:D

Hi I'm a young disabled lady. Keen to make my fortune because the Welfare State is likely to keel over before I do. Single with a cat and an Assistance Dog (part-time labrador/full-time dustbin). Sell a lot on Amazon Marketplace.
I can milk a cow by hand. [Just thought I'd mention it]
Restarting college this year with a view to eventually completing a Maths degree and finding work I can do. Otherwise busy reading about money & investing and watching all the science fiction tv and film I can.If you think reality makes sense, you're just not paying attention!0 -
Hello, I'm a 19 year old student at uni studying history. Been on mse for ages but not really looked in oldstyle that much until recently. I am trying to cook a bit better, for instance I cooked a chicken cottage pie the other day which gave me 3 dinners and a lunch! Anyway thanks for the all great posts! xxxStudent MoneySaving Club member 017!0

Hi, I'm also a lurker who thought it about time I introduced myself. I'm a 32 year old SAHM with 2 DDs, and a gorgeous husband. I've tried being OS before and fallen off the wagon, so am having another go. I aspire to being a flylady who meal plans, however nowhere near yet!
Really enjoy the board and am always picking up great tips!0 -
Newbie here - have been lurking for months, but a post about Biltong got me to sign up so I could join in.
I'm a 41 year old new mum. My little boy is now 8 months old and I'm on unpaid maternity leave. DH earns a reasonable salary but we are struggling to pay our mortgage. I'm doing everything within my power to avoid going back to work until lo is at least 1 year old (and my mat leave ends), although ideally I would like to be able to stay off work until he goes to school. I'm looking into business ideas to enable this to happen but havent come up with a viable plan yet
I've always believed in OS as a concept, and being a keen cook, have not had an issue with the food side of it. However, being a SAHM has given me the opportunity to put some of the other stuff into practice. My cupboards are now virtually chemical free, our outgoings have gone down and, whilst we're still struggling to pay the mortgage, we're in a lot better position than we would have been without all the great advice on here.
OS is addictive and, even if I do have to go to work, I dont believe I will want to go back to the "easy" option.0
