Hi, This is one of my favourite area's of the whole site!! I have just turned 33 and have 2 small children and a hubby (little mrs thrifty didnt sound right tho!). Help out a few hours a week at hubby's work and hoping to start a few hours a week at a friend's new shop soon doing paperwork, otherwise it is juggling every thing at home; trying to live on a budget, cooking from scratch etc. Thanks to this site though, we have saved money along the way to start paying off our mortgage (albeit small amounts at a time!).
Thanks to all so far for all the fantastic advice xxBuy nothing for a month challenge - Oct

Hiya,
i'm Jayne, mum of 5, 3xdd - 22/15/14 and 2xds - 20/8. 2 eldest have now left home and share a house nearby.
Work full time with care-leavers, helping them move from care into independence, case load of 20ish-never a dull minute!!
Also do some mystery shopping and surveys for points and cash.
It seems like we've never had any money, our own fault for having 5 kids:rolleyes: but since finding this site i really believe we might get debt free:j
I've always been quite OS really but a bit disorganised. Now much better and always finding new ideas on here. Found freecycle and FLYlady thriough this site and love those too so thank you everyone.

Hello, I'm 37 and married with 5 children (no you are not reading the same post as above!) 2 x dd 15 and 11m and 3 x ds 12, 8 and 2. I also have 1xsd 21 and a ss 20. We live in Essex.
I have given up part time work in the last year due to prohibitive childcare costs. I'm loving being a stay at home mummy to my brood.
Money is tight but we keep out of debt by going without. I take the view if we've never had it we can't miss it.
I try to cook from scratch and frequently do enormous quantities to freeze for when I'm busy or can't be bothered to cook. Despite having different tastes and fussy eaters, I only cook one meal a day and the family motto is everyone has to eat something they don't like once in a while.
I've picked up loads of helpful tips on this site, thanks :T0 -
Been here for ages and never introduced myself - rude aint I?
I am a 39-again year old mum to three lovely daughters. Eldest is 21 and has a very mild learning difficulty - she has recently moved out and is doing well on her own. Middle dd is 17 and lives very close to me with her son my 2yo dgs. She was pregnant at 14 and i am so proud of her for being an excellent mum and getting 5 gcses at the same time. Youngest dd is 10 and is on the gifted and talented list at school. She is a born o/s moneysaver and has over £100 in her university fund.
I am a civil(ish) servant and work four days at an immigration court in london, mostly dealing with bail applications.
My hobbies are beading, embroidery, knitting, crochet and starting projects. We started a veggie garden last september and are hoping to grow most of our own veggies this yearI'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 20080 -
Hi all, I've been a lurker for a long time but just recently started to make posts.
I am a married mum of two boys. I'm a lab tech in a medical lab and I'm in the fortunate position of being able to work school hours 4 days a week and 1 sat in 4, so what I lose in money I gain in being home for the boys and not paying for after school clubs (which I always resented) also I very rarely sit in traffic jams.
I keep looking at MSE when I should be studying for my course - I'm not writing a 2000 word assignment at the moment.
I'd love to be a model moneysaver but i'm more like the faint-hearted moneysaver. Never quite get things sorted out and i've been skint since I went part time. I keep saying one of these daysI'll be organised but I'm 41 now so when's it going to happen?Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -
Hello. I've posted on a few other threads, but it's probably time to introduce myself. I'm 43(!) with three children - daughters aged 10 and 2 and a son of 7. I've been a full-time mum since my first was born as childcare costs would wipe out any benefit of me working (and I want to look after my own children anyway). I like being my own "boss" so I think I will find it hard to go back to work when my youngest starts school (supposing I'm not 'too old' for an employer by then!) I'm married to a South African, and we did live there for a few years, but it's even more expensive (with lousier pay packets) than here, which is unfortunate as I would love to be able to afford to live there.
Financially it's a real struggle, but you get used to going without don't you?! I cook from scratch - I don't like ready meals even if I could afford them - and as I am vegan and the rest of the family are 99% vegan, it is not as expensive as having to cook meat (yuck!)
I recently joined the Embroiderers' Guild, and really enjoy going to the workshops - I get a few hours off every couple of months.0 -
Hello :hello:
Hi I'm a Kiwi and I'm an Old Style MSE addict :T
Like a few have already said I can't believe I've only just found this site
I am married, 15yrs this year, and have dd 8yr and ds 6yr and a mad 3yr old springer spaniel :rotfl: I work mornings as a TA and am in the middle of getting qualified as such. We moved 3 yrs ago so payed off quite a few debts with house profit but still have a few to shift.
OS has been a huge help so far and I have finally got DH on the MSE bandwagon so much so that he's just been able to pay off 2 credit cards :T :T I have halved our grocery bills by meal planning, batch cooking and doing the grocery challenge, dusted off my old piggy bank and reinstated him as a morgage pig and instigated lots of other small changes  My next challenge will be the Flylady challenge, if they'll have me, they seem such a friendly bunch
That's why I love Old Style sooo much. The advice and support is fantastic and helps to keep me focused on getting my life in order without losing site of what's important so THANK YOU EVERYONE :grouphug:MFiT Member No 85

:hello: This is a way overdue, hello and introduction! Have been in the background for a long time and am totally addicted to MSE...must have daily fix.
Anyway, I'm a 40yo single mum of 1ds: 11yo and 3dd: 15yo (twins) and 9yo. Must also include my lovely 2 cats and my dd snake. I'm currently on a year out from a law degree and I also work very part-time to fit in with the kids.
Seems a little ironic to be paying off my personal debts, only to be running up a student loan!
Thanks to all for the fabulous advice, am enjoying getting back to doing things the proper way (as my ol' Nan would say).New Mantra: I must not visit MSE until after I've completed all my chores!!!!!0
