Hi everyone - just realised I've been around a few months and not properly introduced myself - so rude!
I'm 58, married with one son, one daughter, one stepson, one step daughter - all adult, lovely independent people, One D in L, one S in L, and 4 wonderful grandchildren, oh and a 14yr old ginger and white moggie
I don't work now having taken early retirement/redundancy from a very stressful job (child care social work manager !!!) 4yrs ago. We also downsized and moved to Hants to be nearer to family, and really haven't looked back.
I think I've always been OS - I was brought up that way - and I enjoy it.
My income may have dropped by £25-30,000 but I am far richer in a multitude of other ways.
I love MSE and OS in particular, everyone is so friendly and helpful. Thanks!0 -
Hi I work full time am a singleton, no pets and always looking for moneysaving ideas. Love my garden (hence the handle), make hand-made cards which I sell - although this really only pays for the hobby - no profit. Am gearing myself up to try and sell something on ebay but am a bit frightened - not sure why, I'm in my late 30's but only admit to 29!:D
Really like some of the tips on this website but find some of the posts and discussions quite random - is it just me?:rolleyes:0 -
Hello everyone
Newbie here just popped here to say hi
Love the forum and hope I can start being better/wiser with my money...
Will get up a sig with my outstanding debts (bar mortage - another 22 years on that!) but first need to remind myself what the outstanding is.
Does that go to show how organised I am at the mo?April 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -
Hi there,
I've been on lurker on this site for over 12 months now, I've enjoyed reading everyone elses posts, but have never actually posted anything myself.
Firstly, I'll introduce myself - I'm a part-time accounts assistant/full time mummy and have always been thrifty. However, when my son was born we lost a quarter of our income and had to look at our spending habits. I read the money diet and managed to shave off quite a large amount of our monthly outgoings, that and all the tips I get off here allows me to be able to work part time and spend more time with my son without living on the poverty line. We don't bring in a huge wage between us, but we have no debts and are always able to pay our bills. I hate credit cards and loans, and my theory is if don't have the money we don't have it.
I love the this board in particular. The OS things I do are:
- Cloth nappies and wipes (this saves me a fortune)
- Have an allotment so grow a lot of my own veg (yummy)
- Buy most of our clothes and baby stuff second hand
- Always try to find another use for something that is no longer used - e.g. old bedding into cleaning cloths
- I do all my cleaning with washing up liquid, soda crystals, and vinegar
- Cook most things from scratch and make extra portions to freeze
Anyway, I think I've waffled on enough for now:rotfl:0 -
Welcome thriftmummy
I too am a newby moneysaver and love the "MoneySaving Old Style". I don't have any debt (other than the mortgage) but am always looking for ways to cut back.
Today I've had a really productive morning, went to the early morning church service and came home (via Tesco) have just made a lovely sausage casserole - for tonight and thought while the oven was on I'd make banana bread and a batch of scones.
I undertook the June storecupboard challenge, taking an inventory of everything in the fridge, freezer and cupboard and tried to cut down the food bill by using stuff up.
Good luck with moneysaving.0 -
