Thanks for that. I live 5 minutes walk from the site I'm interested in, but I work fulltime so I wondered in practical terms how many nights a week I'd have to visit to make it viable :) Definitely interested in growing rhubarb! Do you have a shed to keep your tools onsite? What are the watering arrangements?

I had an allotment for a while before DD2 showed up then couldn't cope - just as I'd nearly got on top of it as well. However this tip is great for when you are taking over a jungle - it gives you time to sort it out properly while still growing something

It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Hi there. Another newbie here. Love the forum, esp. OS.

Am attempting to be OS myself, inbetween working full time as a reseacher at UCL (am working on new way to scan for breast disease), and spending half my time in East London at the house i rent with 3 other girls, and half my time in South London with BF (who is disabled and needs a bit of help with various things).

Am exhausted just looking at that! :D

Er, other than that, am 29, live in East London (orginally from Scotland). No kids or dependents (apart from the tomato plants). Love reading, cooking Indian food and attempting to make the world a little bit better.

    Hi

I love MSE, particularly OS, and have been lurking for a while. Have finally plucked up the courage to post. The OS tips and ideas have been lifesaving as I transform from stressed Communications Manager to full time mum and domestic goddess!

I've found the likes of SnowyOwl, Squeaky, Lillebet, Penny-Pincher, Queenie, nicki, Churchmouse, Pink-winged, purpleprincess, thriftlady, MATH et al an inspiration as I try to get back to basics and take on the challenge of running a happy and healthy home.

I'm 33, happily married with one son who is almost 3 and football crazy. We live in Berkshire. Hobbies include reading, movies and decluttering/organising !

Looking forward to contributing to the OS board.

    Best wishes, Punky

I love to cook, travel, read and generally entertain / socialise. Enjoy mountain biking, salsa dancing, organising and the odd glass or four of vino!!

Looking forward to getting to know all the OS'ers!!

Hello, I'm a bloke - I like MSE, especially the Freebie board.

    I'm not from Berkshire. y2.gif
I think outside the box - I can also think round corners. :p

    Hello

I've been lurking and occasionally posting so thought I should say hello!

I think I live fairly OS although I was never concious that's what it was! Always had a dislike of ready meals and prefer to cook meals from scratch. I cycle to work most days and we go camping when we get chance.

Bought a flat with my boyfriend this year and so finally have a vegetable patch (first tomatoes coming through this week!!) although have always grown herbs and things indoors. Have recently upgraded to the Panasonic breadmaker (sooo much better than my old morphy richards one!).

My boyfriend finds it very amusing when I say 'I heard that so and so is really good for this' and we now have stardrops and microfibre cloths so you must all be getting through to me!!

    Hi,

i've been lurking round the DFW and OS style boards for some time now - the help and advice is great and I love the community of the OS board.

I'm 48 - married for 27 years (where did it go  ) with a DD of 23 and DS of 20. DD is making her own way in the world in London while DS is a UNI student.

Work full time at the local Town Council as Deputy Clerk but would love to be able to give it up as I struggle with various ailments. Maybe when DS leaves Uni next year.

Hi, I've just turned 37, mum to 2 kids aged 14 and 10, newly single (and very devastated about it) and just got a new mortgage so it's just as well I'm a full-time civil servant (and then some with lots of overtime). I've decided I want to pay my new mortgage off much quicker than 25 years so need lots of OS tips so I can save lots of money to plough into the mortgage. I think I'm going to be spending lots more time on MSE....which is probably a good thing for my sanity!
  • Hi, another newbie lurker! I have been a SAHM since 24 March when I was made redundant. I am a nurse, and my husband is also a nurse. We have 2 children DD 15 1/2 DS 4 1/4. I am just starting to do a little bit of agency work to keep my registration valid, but we have decided we like things the way they have been for the last few weeks so I won't be seeking a contract. Love OS, had been brought up with OS ethics as my mother didn't work and there were 5 of us kids. My sister who lives in Italy would be an OS queen as she always seeks ways to reduce her grocery bills, doesn't buy expesive cleaning materials and cooks, sews, bulk buys, preserves etc.
