Hello :hello:
Posted in the Daily Thread for the first time today, but have been browsing for a while.
There's me (30), my OH (nearly 31), no kids (phew!) and our gorgeous :happyhear Parsons Jack Russell Tilly, who is about two years old and came from a rescue centre. We both work full time, although I'm only on a maternity cover contract which ends at the end of the month, so I'm looking for something else.
We've always been keen bargain hunters, but also try to be a bit OS where possible, and green(ish) too.
We make our own bread (by hand), and also brew our own beer, which is great. All of our cooking is 'home made' and I refuse to buy 'packet foods' or TV meals! We only have a 'yard' rather than a garden, so I only have some herbs in a pot. If a greenhouse comes up on freecycle though, I'm going to get rid of our huge shed, and grow some veg!
I think that's about it.

I'm new here, too!
46 and soon to be married (officially, though as you can see from my user name we consider ourselves married already), made redundant after 25 years of very well paid work in various sectors of the biotechnology/pharmaceuticals business( worst thing was redundancy in a job I had only been in for 6 months, so no pay off!) .... couldn't find any other work so got a job in Tesco as a night shift shelf stacker, got injured at work and am now surviving on £45 a week sickness benefit. Now, every penny counts but do you know what? I'm happier than I ever was when I earned a lot. No more 18 hour days and stress levels beyond belief. Now I take a pride in doing what I can on very little cash. And The Bear likes it better too! This site has helped so much.
Every cloud has its silver lining!
WendyI'm not as green as I'm cabbage looking!

First job is looking after a castle and occupants, then i also give TLC to antique furniture when i have a spare moment plus help with a disabled person and their pony, so dont get onto this site as much as i would like but still think its Great.0 -
Hiya. I'm regularly found on the Ebay and DFW boards, but have been advised to pop over here. So here I am!

I'm trying to get hubby to cook fresh food instead of heating up stuff from the freezer. This might take some time!

Just had a real surprise! Thought I don't come from Yorkshire! I was surprised that Churchmouse was available as a username, obviously the capital C made all the difference! Hope you don't mind, I really didn't mean to steal your name!! I live in London with my OH and two grown-up sons. Two other sons have left home. I am a sahm, and now do various voluntary work, and help with my darling grandson. I've always said I detest cooking, but for some reason I'm always involved in all catering at my church!! Suddenly since coming on this site I'm getting much happier at cooking and seem to be more interested in it. Must be infectious enthusiasm from this site!!You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
Hello all,
I am a long time reader/lurker on the OS forum and thought I would introduce myself today!
I'm 29 and have a lovely hubby of same age. At the moment I am a librarian but would like to have kids and be a SAHM (just don't tell the husband!).
I love reading the boards on here, particularly the OS boards, and am saving up tips for when I have more time at home.

Hi
after lurking for what seems months and months have finally got around to making it official. I am apparrantly middle-aged (I fully intend to live untill I am 100) although I honestly still feel about 18 Love my job as a primary school teacher - came to it later after lots and lots of different jobs and wouldn't change it for the world. Am a single mother of 3 supposedly grown up children - DS1 26 DS224 and DD19 however that doesn't prevent their demands on my finances. Having always been poor have naturally been OS for most of my life.
I am a confirmed bibliophile and am constantly running out of space to stash the books - they have to be on a rota system between the house and the garage! I love to sew - especially if I can recycle fabric and at the moment am having a great splurge on making patchwork quilts from old cotton sheets and quilts I have bought from charity shops. Cooking is another passion. This has gotten much cheaper since I turned vegan as the ingredients don't tend to cost so much and I have never eaten such a variety of different foods.
I am c**p at housework and gardening. I do try but something - sewing reading, historical research (family tree at the moment), MSE always seems to get in the way. Must try harder!
I am hoping to join an African drumming workshop in the near future which should be fun as you could call me more than a little unco-ordinated!
As I have got younger I have become much more militant than in my youth and protest much more. During the past few years I have started to attend Glastonbury and LOVE IT Have also become much more aware of the environment and aim to harm the earth as little as possible. Therefore I don't possess a car, buy as much as I can from charity shops, have changed my diet and recycle like mad. But please don't think that any of this is hair shirt stuff - it makes me happier and I am generally known for the fact that I am always smiling.
Love MSE because it's about people helping each other and sharing information - no one knows it all. I learn new things all the time. I think OS is about "The Knowledge" There is a book written about a group of families and how they managed their finances. Most of them lived on a pretty poor diet of bought prepared food and had trouble making ends meet. One of the mothers though, made her own bread, cooked from scratch each day, and used "The Knowledge" to stay within her budget. The date this was written ? 1913 It is "Round about a Pound a Week" by Maud Pember Reeves. Long may OS and MSE continue to spread "The Knowledge"True wealth lies in contentment - not cash. Another lurker who is finally finding her feet in the maze of MSE. To be honest this site is becoming abit of a life saver. I am a SAHM of DD who is 6 months old, also have a partner and 2 cats. I would say the most difficult thing for me is going out for walk into town and not spending any money!! Have decided the time has come to be more proactive about bringing some money in (so I can spend it without so much guilt!!). So am busy (!) trying to sell on ebay (when I have enough money to buy some batteries for my digital camera), also on Amazon and when the weather is clement at car boot sales. Not fit for paid employment as I have baby brain syndrome i.e. I don't seem to be able to remember much and also seem to be yawning constantly, not good skills for future employers!! Anyway it has been nice to read through the various other posts and know that there are real people out there. Have to go now and continue with my life of play and cuddles ... x:A ForOurFuture0
