so far so good here thank goodness! Sunny all day but very windy. Where about in Scotland are you?? (If you dont mind me asking)

I'm not in Scotland, I'm in Gloucestershire which was wet this morning, but drying out a little now I saw the forecast earlier which was showing heavy rain storms for huge parts of Scotland; hope you're lucky and escape it. hope your lo is better soon too, its such a worry when they're so small ;)

    Hi,

The title says it all really. I've been reading this site for a while now and have seen so many useful tips and inspiring stories, that I've decided to join you properly and become an old style queen! I don't have the highest paying job in the world, but I'm not badly off and I'm not in debt. However, the costs of being an adult - home improvements, bills etc - are really adding up so I'm looking to make little changes so that I can comfortably afford all that is necessary and have a bit more cash for fun things, like holidays. If I put my aims down here, hopefully it'll be the push I need to stick with it!

So far, this is what I've accomplished:
    * Changed electricity from economy 7 to a regular tariff. I'm sure this will work far better for me, and I hope to see the difference after the winter
    * Worked out a few more things in the supermarket that are OK in the Value range. I admit to being a bit snobby in the past, and for some things I still will be, but it's all about small changes, right?
    * Using my freezer better to take advantage of special offers and buying larger packs of e.g. mince
    * Bulk online supermarket shops - yes, I pay for delivery, but if my cupboards are full I visit the shops less, and I can take advantage of e.g. 5% off 6 bottles of wine
    * No cracking open a bottle of wine if I'm on my own. This is going quite well. My wine rack stays fuller for longer and I feel healthier.
    * Restaurant vouchers. Fabulous.

    Changes I'd like to make:
    * I just seem to waste money on pointless little things, but can't figure out where. Methinks a spending diary is needed.
    * Taking out an amount of cash and living on just that for the week. I'd love to be able to do that. I think I might need to start leaving the cards at home.
    * I do throw out some food, although it is less than before.

Hopefully I'll be able to chip in and help and encourage some of you sometimes too. I'm a bit of a demon in the kitchen, looking forward to experimenting with some economical meals.

So, there it is. Now it's written down, I HAVE to start economising. Feel free to slap me if I fall off the wagon!
  • Hello everyone!

    I'm a newbie!

I'm 26 and work full time for Barclays (don't start kicking me out just yet!) I live in Devon with my gorgeous OH and we are getting married in 6 weeks!

I have come on this site for some fab hints, tips and inspiration for saving money, and clearing my very nasty £2200 credit card balance which to me is very huge and scary..

Everyone here is great and through my past few weeks of lurking have already picked up some invaluable advice.

    LG x

    Hello All

I am a newbie since April and for some reason - only realised that this post existed tonight - go figure???!

Any way - some of you know how i got here and in a nutshell i am married to OH ( 2nd marriage both) and we both fought to sort out and pay off huge debts carried over from divorces when we met - need to start MFW now but thats another days march.

Just on our feet - the shabby thread know that our house is totally furnished with hand me downs and cast offs from other people.

The shopping thread know that we are trying to cut our household spend - partly because we have a house which needs new wiring and heating and decorating etc - think unchanged since the 1960's

Just want to say thanks to everyone who has helped me to become OS - i have learnt to cook, meal plan, budget, product test, and buy the cheapest fuel - all because of MSE - and i know there is lots more good stuff to learn - so thanks for the recipes, meal plans, freezer building blocks, fly lady etc it all helps

I live with OH and a much loved hungry cat - almost twice the age of some of the younger members - and ashamed to say - still need to learn a great deal.

I guess i am here -because i have no one to hand this information down to me - and i dont want to miss out learning OS ways

    be patient with me

    Best wishes

    Trin
