Hi, I'm an OS newbie (although I've been lurking for a long time) so I suppose I'd better introduce myself!
I'm 31 and I live in mid Wales with my husband and 3 children, aged 3, 5 and nearly 7. I work part time at the village nursery school, and am also studying with The Open University.
I love cooking, baking, cross stitch, knitting, gardening, reading and enjoying the outdoors!
Other than the mortgage we don't have any debts or anything to get rid of, we try to save for things rather than buy on credit, and we try to live within our means.
It's nice to find like minded people with tips and ideas to share!0 -
Hi all. Have put a few posts on the OS forum, but been lurking on other parts of the forums as well. So time to introduce myself.
I'm 37, in my own house, which I share with 2 rescue cats. Or should I should say the cats own more (along with the garden), than me. I've been working at my nearby airport for the past year & 1/2.0 -

Hi, I'm fairly new to OS and still trying to get started properly. I've lurked for a while! I'm a SAHM to DS 6, DD 4.5, DD 2.5 and also help run our business with DH.
All the children were in cloth nappies, I grow some fruit and quite a few veg and we keep hens, so I have a few things already in place, but struggle in quite a few other areas, especially food shopping and meal planning. I'm hoping for help! In free time when not busy with the children I love to read, bake or play the piano.
No debts other than the mortgage, but I am really keen to try to save (being self employed is quite stressful at the moment) and also to make a dent in the mortgage to reduce outgoings.0 -
Hello, been lurking here for a while and thought it was time to introduce myself and reveal my shameful secret.
I've recently started using tips from this site to save money. A couple of years ago I was sharing a flat and we'd go to the supermarket, buy a load of rubbish, get home, declare that we couldn't be bothered cooking and order a takeaway. At the end of every month, any proper food we'd bought would be chucked in the bin because it had turned to mould. Needless to say, I was constantly poor, and looking back, I'm so ashamed of this behaviour.
Since I've been living alone, I've managed to save a lot more money and paid off my overdraft and credit card, despite paying more for rent, bills etc and now I'm saving up to buy my first place (it's a long and sometimes discouraging process).
Anyway, thanks to all for their useful tips (I've turned into such a skinflint) and here's to more!!0 -
Goodness you lot are well hidden! I've been posting around here for a few months and there was always mention of the "old style" - no idea what anyone was talking about! Thankfully I've found you, now all I have to do is buy a slow cooker, stop being a snob in the supermarket and get on my way to saving a decent amount of cash! :beer:Lynzie Lou :dance:0

Hello to everyone,
I'm mum of two boys (3 and 5), wife to a lump who works then plays on his computer, adopted mum of 2 dogs (Lab Dalmatian cross and 8 week old Ridgeback puppy!)
Just moved back to the UK from Cyprus, but have planted some veggies - hope that they come up! Doing loads of recycling and using Freecycle whenever I can.
I like to save money because its a challenge plus I'd like my children to have a simple childhood - going for walks, playing outside etc. We do have days out (that appear to cost a fortune now!) but I limit these to once a week and am getting the boys into picnics (albeit in the car in the wet!).
Any hints and tips gratefully received. xxxMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Hi All
Have been hanging around here in the background for a few weeks, so thought it was time I introduced myself.
I'm 37 (), work full time in the NHS and share my home with my lovely cat - the two of us are very happy!
I love, love , love this link - there is nothing I like better than to save cash where I can (see, 'work full time in the NHS', for reasons why)!
There are some things and 'brands' that at present I can't give up - but in time this may change.
I'm not veggie, but don't tend to eat much meat. I love cooking - would spend all my time cooking if I had a frezer big enough to hold it all.
Looking forward to becoming more OS in the coming months.Scrappie
