Hello,
Another lurker for a while put finally getting up the courage to join in.
I was already fairly OS before I found this board, but have learned more since. Lots more.
I am a fulltime wage slave, but I knit on my commute (all my family are each getting cotton facecloths with a little (shopbought probably) soap for Christmas this year). I am learning to crochet (badly). I grow a reasonable amount of my own veg between the back garden, my office window ledge (a pot of peas for lunchtime salad additions) and a quarter of an allotment. I do have dreams of self-sufficiency in years to come, but maybe not the next 5. We cook from scratch a lot (well, perhaps using tinned tomatoes, but starting with "fry an onion..."). I do some preserving when I can and not quite brewing but adapting drinks (like lemoncello or raspberry vodka). And I like to use lots of coupons and loyalty cards, and we do a bulk shop (in Northern Ireland - we're in Dublin) about 3 or 4 times a year for a lot of much cheaper goods. As well as using a local fishmonger and butcher, and stocking up on cheap cuts when we go "back home" from the butchers local to where we grew up.
But I am looking forward to keeping learning more.

Hi all, thought I would finally post on this thread. I've been a member of the forums for quite some time but have rarely posted - just absorbing all the amazing tips and things I would never have thought of! I have now decided to take the plunge and become a regular rather than just a lurker!
A bit about me; I'm 18, studying a full time uni degree (have just finished my first year!), I work part time and volunteer part time and I'm pretty old style but there's still areas needing work=]************************************

Hello everyone
Been meaning to introduce myself for a while, don't get as much time as I would like on here with 2 little boys and OH glued to PC every spare moment (only here as he's watching footie). I'm a fulltime SAHM, 41 years young, eldest boy 5 has been at school fulltime since Easter and youngest son is 2.5 and not yet at pre-school. Hubby works fulltime and has a bit of a commute so pretty much do eveything myself during the week as our wider families all live a long way away. We live in SE Essex with our 2 cats (brothers so its 5 males and me in our house!)
I grew up in a OS household and at times it drove me mad but now we are on a tight budget, I can really see the sense of it all. However I've always been a bargain hunter, good at budgeting and never earnt a great deal so I feel very much at home here. I have helped one of my dearest friends to become more MSE & OS since she was made redundant and its fun comparing notes with her. My main problem is lack of time - for those of you with older children does it get easier when they are older? I get frustrated that I can't do more OS. I am also driving myself mad trying to decide whether to go back to work when youngest is at school... and if so full/part time and doing what or whether to try and extend OS much more and continue being a SAHM.
I love this forum and lots of others too. You are all an inspiration, Thank you!0 -

Hallo peeps. I've been chatting on the savings boards since Iceberg sunk but have only just discovered this section (durrr) so look forward to getting to know you and improving my life.
I'm a grandma of 5, sixth due in November, been a non-worker since 2004 and OH retired 2 years ago. Our 4 kids obviously felt we needed the stimulation and exercise of looking after theirs so we've usually got 1 or 2 two year olds around 3 days a week, with a 4 yr old, a 1yr old and 9yr old thrown in on the side. Life is rarely dull...:hello:0 -
Hi all, I recently discovered MSE and started posting, thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Claire, I've just finished my degree, not looking forward to being kicked from my nice comfy student life into the real world :P Always been thrifty and looking for a bargain, I think it sometimes drives my boyfriend mad when I bring home 'rescued' treasures
Absolutely loving the forums, some great tips and ideas for me to try out, hopefully save some pennies along the way as well :rotfl:

I'm a teaching assistant at a primary school, just qualified in indian head massage and doing that voluntary with adults with learning difficulties while summoning up courage to set up business and help my partner with the books etc. for his business (painting & decorating).
