:hello: hello arhino30 and Miggie - good to meet you both. Welcome to the OldStyle board - and be prepared to become addicted, in the nicest possible way :).

Many of us on here have been through the debt problems and we DO understand how difficult it can be with kiddies. You'll find lots of useful hints and tips on here that CAN help to shrink your shopping budget, leaving more money for sorting out any financial problems.

You've both made a big step by facing the debts and beginning to work on them - things can only get better from there.

Grab a tipple of your choice - mines a coffee, drop of milk, no sugar pls ;) - and have a good browse :D.

It looks, from my post count as though I'm a very newbie but in fact I used to post on an overseas property thread that was deleted due to legal reasons ...whoops! Consequently post count went from a respectable few hundred back to zero :o

Since then I've lurked but am just starting to post again.

I'm a stay at home mum of a 16 year old son. We live in the Middle East and have done off and on since I got married 20 years ago - even though I hate the heat and would much rather DH had found a job much further North.....Iceland for instance! Myself and DS will be returning to the UK this summer so that he can do his A levels which means that we'll be apart from DH for long periods. Our carbon foorprint will rise dramatically with all the flying to and fro

On the plus side I can't wait to start OS properly ;)

(I should add that working in the Middle East doesn't automatically mean that you're rolling in money and as DH is retiring in less than 10 years we're really getting our fingers out and starting some serious retirement planning. Situation at present is i) somewhere of our own to live in?... no! ii) pension?... no! Future looks pretty scary at the moment.)

When I'm not posting recipes on here I'm making videos or writing for my online blog. I make a living out of it as long as people watch my work.

I have a background in marketing, production, broadcast and investment banking. I'm also an actor and presenter and yes I have been on telly.

I'm off to play some tennis. Good idea for a thread :)

  • Hi, I'm Vicky and I'm trying to reorganise my life. I'm in a too small flat with too much stuff, we rarely do housework (I sound like such a slob) and we spend too much money when we have debts. We're getting married in July so rather than pay off the debts I'm trying to find ways to pay for that without incurring any more and then I shall work on paying them off. I also want to cook more from scratch. Despite hating them I use ready meals a lot (laziness?) and I want to break this habit and eat more healthy and tasty meals - one of my biggest bugbears is how awful ready meals taste! Unfortunately I am a pretty poor cook so looking at lots of threads for inspiration. I have a slow cooker as well as a bread maker (which I am proud to say gets used most of the time we need bread). I also work full time and never seem to have time to get 'stuff' done so am hoping things like the flylady thread will help me do small amounts often to get this sorted, rather than me trying to do all things at once and losing heart.

    Hiya Everyone:A

Since i have been lurking a while i thought i better introduce myself ;)

I am 27 and live in Derbyshire with my OH who is a notoriously fussy/faddy eater and a mummies boy not to mention a brand-a-holic and doesn't like fresh natural and cheap to make food lol.

He is taken in with the brand brand brand hype and when i mention homemade he curls his lips, i mentioned homemade washing liquid he said that was what Fairy was for lol.Although he does adore my home baking and will try(hesitantly)most things i offer.

Anyway i have came here to share my tips and experiences and more so to learn new things especially as we are planning to expand the family in a few years i thought start now to be even more frugal lol , as there is loads and loads to learn.

I used to be very good at saving pennies and watching them but since meeting my darling OH i have lost my touch a little and have found myself binning things as he moaned they went off that day!!!:eek::eek:

Anyway i adore aromatherapy and natural or holistic things, i love make up and clothes and perfume and spending money on them(hmm cant remember when i last did though lol), at the minute i am very interested in making my own creams and hair products etc and have been reading recipes online and sourcing ingredients and equipment needed., it is a minefield and takes a lot of researching which i love doing lol.

I also enjoy baking and cleaning and pets oh and my other passion ahem self tanning lol:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I adore reading the tips, recipes, experiences of other people on here an tell everyone i know about MSE and to come visit lol:T:T:T:T:T:money:

Hello.Well ive been watching and reading for about a year now.Yesterday i replied to a post for the first time. My OH and I are both home on the sick at moment but hoping to go back to work soon,if there are any jobs about that i can do as i suffer with my back from when i was a care assistant..SO living on the sick is not easy as its not much money and still have to pay the bills..we have got the Mortgage changed to interest only to help out. Our children from previous marriages are all grown up..But we are now hoping once we are back at work to pay the mortgage off as quick as possible then either buy an old bus and go travelling or buy a narrow boat and cruise the canals..
Reading the forums i have learnt a lot and cut back a lot on things..Last 2 things to do is to pay off and get rid of 2 credit cards

    Hell peeps!

I've been lurking for a few months now, and have found these forums so useful that I can't begin to tell you :j

I work as a buyer for the NHS, but my job ends in June so I'm noseying round now to see what I can pick up. The panic hasn't set in yet, but I can feel it looming!
I live alone in a lovely flat, and spend a lot of time with my friends, either eating out or having them round for dinner.

I have recently bought a slow cooker thanks to the old style board, and I think it is the best tenner I have ever spent. I like to cook but most of the time can't be bothered cooking just for me, so being able to tip everything into a pot and walk away is a dream :T
Oh and thanks for the red lentils - another eye-opener!

I'm looking forward to trying lots of other new things
