I just properly noticed this thread - lol- thought I'd post in it!! Better late than never
Im 33 and have a bloke and 3 daughters age 3, 4 and 8. My bloke also has a son aged 14.
We live in Dorset and have a collie and 2 chickens (there were 4 but the fox got 2)
Grew up living rurally with not alot of money, so used to the frugal life - I can't honestly say its what I'd choose, but its definately something Im good at! Mum had tons of debt, food used to run out 2 weeks before payday etc.
Anyway I dont work atm, although I will be soon the rate we're going, probably care work. OH works for a company putting up marquees, but hasnt been paid for a while, is owed over £800 and it looks like the company's about to go under...bit of a worry.
In my few moments of spare time I play classical & electric guitar, paint and draw and write poetry/lyrics.
I like this forum and come here because I havent really got any money. Im living in my overdraft and got near the limit, and thanks to here and also the DFW board, am just trying to get it back down to zero. Love the fact that so many people post and so many good ideas here, thank goodness for the internet!''A moment's thinking is an hour in words.'' -Thomas Hood0 -
Hi all,
I have posted a few time on OS thread but have been very rude and not introduced myself!
I am 31...actually 32 in a few days time and a full time student. I live with my boyfriend and he works full time. I met him after I had decided to go to Uni so he has been kind enough to continue paying the household bills on his own as he would have had to if he hadn't met me anyway!!
My contribution is that I do the weekly food shopping and cooking. As my course is really full on I don't have time to work part time but do in the Summer holidays. Hence I love OS tips as gives me good ideas on how to save the ££££££ which is just what I need.0 -

. Great to meet you all. You'll find this a friendly board and LOTS of stuff to grab your interest. If you can't find the answer to something that you want to know - just shout out! You'll soon discover that 'somebody' will have an answer OR at least point you in the right direction as to where to find the answer.
Looking forward to reading any moneysaving hints and tips that you may have :j.

Hello!
Thought I'd properly introduce myself!
I'm 29, married, work full time and live on the Lancashire Coast. In addition to my OH, we've got 2 Boxer dogs, 6 ducks, 7 chickens and 3 rabbits!
We're also lucky enough to own a house with a little bit of land, and have a large allotment-style veg patch, small orchard and a very old greenhouse. We're hoping to demolish the greenhouse this Spring to make way for a new polytunnel (Christmas present from my mum!) to help with our growing.
I'd like to be even more self-sufficient than we already are, but my full-time job gets in the way of having more animals, and not enough time to learn how to make cheese etc!
I started using the MSE boards as we've got quite a lot of debt, but find the OS boards brilliant, as we're quite green/eco-friendly, which seems to go well with the whole OS ethos!0 -
I don't think I ever did this - I'm Hawthorn, mum to four (14 male, 12 male, 9 female, 5 male.......I'm over run by boys!) My husband is a police officer and works hard for us, and I'm also one proud bull terrier owner. One mad, daft, soppy dog.
It's hectic around here, I don't mind telling you LOL.
When I'm not contributing on here....well.....I cook a lot, and I'm learning to cook new things all of the time. We do like our curries and chinese, so I've got the curry down to a fine art now and every now and then do an Indian meal - curry, Bahjis, poppadoms, Raitha - delicious. Now, to perfect the chinese!
I don't work, but I do work hard at spending as little as possible. I shop all over the place for the best deals, meal plan, and everything is baked from scratch, including all of our bread (by hand - me and breadmakers don't see eye to eye, at all!)
I'd love to keep chickens for eggs, but alas, I have a terrier who loves to chase birds, so that ain't happening.
I'd love to make our own clothing too, but I can never seem to find nice material to make them in this country
Instead, I scour charity shops for good bargains. I'm teaching the kids how to run a budget, and they are fast learning that bargains are good
I can give the eldest £35, and he'll come back with a full wardrobe LOL.
Other days, I'm out doing CBT, or a confidence/self esteem building course that I attend - it's going well.
I guess you could say I'm an old fashioned wifey with a pampered family, and a husband that is treat like a king
That IS my workProud to be dealing with my debts :T

Hello
I have been reading here for months but finally decided to register today. I have learnt so much from this site. I now have a remoska that I use every day, Stardrops, soapnuts and a slow cooker.
I am married with one son who is home educated so time and money often seem short.
I tend to read more than post but hope to be able to contribute.
Thanks for all the ideas so far.0 -
Hi all,
Having entered the monthly GC it would be rude if I don't introduce myself. I am a postgraduate student from China (Hong Kong). Needless to say I am living alone, in the middle of some big spending housmates. I was brought up in a rather 'OS' family, but doing everything myself, and half a globe away from any of my relatives, is certainly different. After reading this forum some times I found it very interesting and learned quite a few tricks.
I am sorry for not being very 'British'. I am looking forward for more sharing.
